The Cork House is one of my favorite places to go for dinner and drinks.  The place is very laid back and hip.  I enjoy going to the Cork House mostly in the summers.  They have a patio to die for, with a large water fountain, Christmas lights all around, grape vines along the fence and huge trees for shade.  The wine list is very extensive (http://www.corkhousedenver.com/wineglass.pdf) , sure to please all, and the tapas ( which means small plates )  are all fab as a meal or to share.  The restaurant is located on Colfax between Monaco and Colorado.  The customer service is great.  We were there about a week ago and my husband, Aaron ordered a scotch that he had ever tried before, and it was awful, it tasted like a throat lozenge, they wait staff gladly exchanged the $16.00 1 oz pour ...

An article from the Rocky Mountain News, reports that the city of Denver announced May 1 the Denver Neighborhood Marketplace Initiative, a pilot program from the Office of Economic Development aimed at strengthening neighborhood business districts and their surrounding communities and helping small businesses grow.  According to the OED, more than half the city's general fund comes from retail sales taxes on small businesses and many of the retail establishments are in smaller business districts outside Denver's downtown core.  Economic development administrator Bo Martinez said the city chose five districts to participate in the pilot program, using a set of performance criteria that categorized each district's current state of development as somewhere along the spectrum between chall...

An article from the Denver Business Journal, reports that according to project architect, Klipp, the exterior renovation is complete on the historic downtown Denver building that will become Sage Hospitality Resources LLC’s new headquarters in early 2009.  The Sage Building, more popularly is known as the Fontius building, has been largely vacant since the late 1980s, and became blighted over the years under previous ownership.  Headed by developer Evan Makovsky, Shames-Makovsky purchased the 48,346-square-foot building in 2007 with plans of restoring it for office and retail space.  Sage has leased the 4-story Sage Building’s upper 3 floors, which includes 32,000 square feet of space and hopes to move into that space in early 2009, with interior construction scheduled to be completed ...

An article from The Denver Post, reports that a few years ago, Martha Stewart teamed up with KB Home to design a line of homes modeled after her own residences.  Last year, they brought the concept to Stapleton.  According to MetroStudies, year-to-date sales at KB Home Martha Stewart are 38% higher than the 11 other builders in the Stapleton master plan.  Since launching KB Home Stapleton: Homes Created With Martha Stewart, KB has sold 43 homes and will deliver 35 of them this year.  Mike Rinner, a housing analyst at the Genesis Group in Arapahoe County said, "It's a unique product she lends her name to.  If they built the same houses without the Martha Stewart touch and had standard finishes and decor without the additional stuff, it would not be as nice a home.  It would not have the ...

An article from the Denver Business Journal, reports that according to the company and those monitoring the project’s progress, developer Forest City Enterprises Inc. is on track as they are nearly halfway through the expected 15-year redevelopment of Denver’s former main airport, Stapleton International.  Dick Anderson, former CEO of the Stapleton Development Corp., said a variety of for-sale housing, despite metro Denver’s soft housing market of recent years, continues to be built at Stapleton, and industrial and retail development has been relatively strong.  The 4,700-acre Stapleton project currently includes 3,200 single-family houses, rowhomes, condominiums and other for-sale housing as well as 400 apartments.  Commercial real estate already built includes the 740,000-square-foot...

Painting your home can be very beneficial when trying to do a quick, easy fix to sell your home faster. Painting will make your home look more up to date and will have it smelling fresh and new. Not only does painting help sell your home, it will make your home much more cozy. You will be able to add your personal touch without breaking the bank. Choosing a good color is what it's all about. You have to keep in mind that if you are looking to sell the home picking more neutral colors might be your best option. If you will be staying in the home for awhile the options are endless. Choosing the colors and finishes for your home is a great way to make a house seem like a home, especially if you are a first time buyer you can pick exactly what you want your new home to look like. West Hayward Place is one of my favorites streets in Denver for viewing homes from the Victorian Architectural Period.  These homes were built in the late 1800's and reside in the popular Highlands area, which is approximately a five minute drive from downtown Denver.  The street is very peaceful, with old trees with large canopies providing blankets of shade.  Victorian Cottages primarily line the street, with their acute roof slopes creating a pattern of triangles lined up.  Upon closer look, you will see what makes these homes so unique; the detail in the woodworking on the gables and the use of vivid and contrasting colors of paint.  These homes were built during a time of rapid industrialization, so new innovations in architecture and design were occurring, evident by these homes. ...

If you are planning to sell your Denver home this fall or winter, here is a quick tip for getting a home on the Denver real estate market from October - March, particularly if you have a gorgeous yard. Take out your camera and snap a few photos.  Your beautiful garden with perennials, flowering bushes and the like.  If your yard is covered in snow during showings, and your landscaping is a true gem, it can be nice to show off what is buried below the frozen ground.  If you have photos like this at your fingertips come December, your Denver Realtor will thank you.   Steve Scheer, RE/MAX Masters, Inc. For the first time in a century, the Democratic National Convention is in Denver. Our Mile High City will be filled with candidates, delegates, journalists, lobbyists and assorted hangers-on this week.  You'll find an expanding metropolis that manages to retain a compact feel, as well as increasingly "in" neighborhoods with names like LoDo (Lower Downtown) and LoHi (Lower Highlands). Getting around on foot or public transportation is easy, and the buses that run along the 16th Street Mall (a pedestrian shopping strip) are free. With all the additional people visiting let's hope some will think about buying a second home.  This is a great place for city excitement and yet just minutes from the slpoes.  Downtown has 395 available condos/lofts to consider.  Our economy could use a long ter...

How important is staging your home?To answer that question in a word-VERY!Statistics show that staging your home will help it sell in half the time for a higher percentage of the asking price. In the current Denver real estate market, it's important to do everything in your power to make a lasting impression on Buyers. Anything you can do to help your home make it to the top of the list is much needed.Trish Pachak with We Stage Colorado lets us know that staging is an "investment," not a cost. It helps you, as the Seller, to sell your home in the critical stage of the first 30 days on the market to avoid price reductions and the continuation of your mortgage payments. You're essentially "investing" in your home's equity. The recommendations and results from home stagers are based on years...

Since I live in Riverfront Park, I thought it only fitting to write a blog about this Lower Downtown Denver area.I like to refer to Riverfront Park as a city within a city because of the never-ending community feeling you get when you're here not to mention the shops, restaurants and parks all located right in the heart of Downtown Denver. You know you're in Riverfront Park when you cross the Millennium Bridge-your walkway to the other side of the tracks. I obtain the market statistics from Metrolist, Denver’s MLS system. They publish monthly statistics based on their data of properties that are entered into the Denver MLS, and provide their statistics to help brokers and consumers understand the market. In July, Denver’s market saw a bit of a pop over previous months - as you can see by the reduction in number of homes on the market. This could be a typical seasonal increase in activity, but I think that it’s combined with increased positive feelings about the state of Denver’s market. We’re seeing many more visitors to our open houses and days on the market hasn’t increased by much lately. In fact, in the price range from $300,000 to about $800,000, homes seem to be selling rather quickly. Actual sales of single family homes and condo...
