While on vacation I have heard from a couple of Rainers, and so fun to catch up!   One I have known for quite some time, been to her home and the other it was the first time having a conversation!  She asked if I was on solid ground!   LOL   SO nice to "know" someone through their blogs, but even better when you are able to actually have a conversation! Since 2007, I have spoken to MANY Rainers across the Country, gotten to know them better, and many have scheduled meet-ups for face-to-face!  Some day I should write down all of those I have met, or at least spoken to over the years! Talking to other REALTOR friends around Denver, they think this is more like a "cult", as why would you go and invite someone into your home that you don't "know"?   Well, after years, you do feel like you k...

This Week…Houston’s Two H’s Houston is known for two things in the summer: it’s hot and humid. We expect temperatures in the 90s plus; however, the humidity has been brutal. Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.Victor HugoWe have to carry a knife or machete when we walk just to cut through the thick air! (Not really, but it seems that way)Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. Attributed to Plato We’re celebrating Make Music Day today. The celebration originated in France and later spread to the U.S. After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.Aldous HuxleyLuckily, Jeff Dowler, CRS has a Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad!  If you ...

When I left, I never thought about there being toll roads.    We have one in Aurora, but thinking that is the only one in all of Colorado.    Coming across Illinois, I saw it was a toll road, but there were no signs as to how to sign up for the program to pay them.  Guess I will get something in the mail.  In NY they said **826 and sign up, so I did.Coming from Detroit to South Bend IN, I put both into my gps - toll road and no toll road, and there was about 15 minute difference.  NOT bad, no toll roads.  So, got to see the beautiful countryside.   Tree-lined narrow country roads - just beautiful.Last night there was quite the storm, and was hoping it wouldn't hail!   I was on the top floor, so once it started pouring, it was LOUD.   I watched out the window to see if there would be any...

This is the story about love, opportunities, faith, possibilities, and the gift of friendship with family and colleagues. The stories I'm about to share come from the Midwest from Illinois and Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Feature photo was received from a dear friend of mine. She is a Nurse from Lake Villa, IL who announced her daughter, also a Nurse, recently gave birth to this beautiful baby girl on May 21, 2025. The baby is my friend's first granddaughter and her daughter's first baby. Isn't she beautiful!!!  Have you heard about the 14 nurses in Greenbay, Wisconsin who did or are about to give birth from the same hospital? I provided the link, for your convenience or just google it. The births began in May 2025 and are ongoing until October 2025. Nurses have often been called angels on...

Not every day a small Southern town can say it helped build a major city’s skyline—but Walhalla, SC, can.In 1924, John Portman was born early in Walhalla. Most folks around here know Walhalla for its waterfalls, mountain views, and close-knit community—but few realize it’s also the birthplace of one of the world’s most visionary architects.Portman didn’t stay in town long, but his mark on the world is hard to miss. If you’ve ever walked through downtown Atlanta, chances are you’ve seen—or stayed in—his work: The Hyatt Regency Atlanta, with its glass elevators and jaw-dropping atrium The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta’s iconic cylindrical tower The Marriott Marquis has a futuristic interior (you’ve probably seen it in a movie or two!). He didn’t just design buildings—he designed experie...

Friday Flags, Blowing in the Wind In Simsbury, CTOur senior golf league had an away day this week and 28 ventured to Simsbury CT to play the public course there. The layout is special as over 300 acres of what was once an orchard were donated to the town with the condition that it be used only for recreation. So, in addition to a championship golf course, there is a hockey rink, a large pool, tennis courts, basketball courts and a large playscape. The clubhouse is friendly and of course there is a large flag at the main entrance. It was a great morning, the course was in excellent shape, and my ball was going in the hole.Friday Flags, Blowing in the Wind In Simsbury, CT

Back in September 2024, I shared my admiration for one of Austin’s most vibrant blooms, the Pride of Barbados. These fiery orange-red beauties always catch my eye during my morning walks, thanks to the lush landscaping in our community.Well, I couldn’t resist the urge to try my hand at growing them myself! A walking buddy let me in on a gardening secret: in the fall, once the seed pods turn brown and crisp, you can pluck them off, store them in a brown paper bag over winter, and come spring, voilà! Plant the seeds. So that’s exactly what I did! Last fall, I collected a few pods and tucked them away. Come April, I gave it a go. I planted six pods in a container, and… drumroll… two little sprouts made an appearance! Not exactly a bumper crop, but I was thrilled. Meanwhile, my friend plante...

Came through the border Thursday morning, and there had to be 100 cars in line trying to cross into Canada.   I had just one car in front of me, and sailed through, no issues.    SO thankful I was in Hamilton Wednesday evening, as Detroit and South Bend IN had really rough weather including tornado warnings.    It poured Wednesday in Hamilton, and most of the way into Detroit Thursday, and only once did the skies open up.   The best part of driving, is I always bring a full set of silverware with me.  I like to stop at the grocery store and see what they have in the deli.   Thursday night I picked up some orange chicken and a chef's salad.  SO good, and not greasy fried food.Didn't see anything along the way Thursday, except the Ambassador Bridge, rather cool.   The clouds made for a pr...

As a follow-up to my second entry into the June challenge hosted by Anna "Banana" Kruchten and Debe Maxwell, CRS it has become apparent to me that I need to offer something more. So having the points to spend, for those who learn to read after attending the after school programs I sponsored, its time to offer scholarships to continue educational pursuits or vocational training for those wanting to pursue a different path.I knew just offering continuing education scholarships left something missing for those wanting to pursue the trades and become a mechanic, plumber, electrician.or other occupation. As we are learning college is not for everyone. Those with a different desire should be granted the same opportunity. After reading the posts of other participants in the challenge this mont...

Singer Johnny Cash once sang, “I’ve been everywhere, man. I’ve been everywhere.”I’m not as lucky as Johnny, as I haven’t been everywhere. Everywhere is probably too big a goal for one lifetime. But I have a goal to go to as many places as I can before the day comes that travel is no longer a possibility.Domestically, I have traveled to forty-five of the fifty states (yes there are still only fifty) having spent at least one full day in each, some states, Illinois, Florida, and Wisconsin have been fortunate enough to have me as a guest for longer stints.Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Louisiana, and West Virginia, watch out! You are on my radar.A few years ago, my wife and I made a goal to visit each continent at least once.So far, we have been to South America visiting both Sao Paulo and Rio de ...

The journey through California continues as we now head up through San Francisco to the Sonoma area and the famous wine country. On our way, we stumbled upon the Dry Creek area that was teeming with quaint vineyards each one beckoning us to come in and stay awhile. Each tasting room boasted a different flair and personality. We especially enjoyed the Dry Creek Vinyard Winery with its relaxed atmosphere and very friendly people. Oh, and the Pinot Noir was superb!    We drove miles through the Russian River Valley area and Sonoma. Beautiful hillsides loaded with grapevines that are perfectly lined up offering a future bounty of delicious fruit awaiting a harvest at the end of the summer. It is a beautiful area. Because we were traveling with our 13-year-old son, this trip was more about "...
