Get to Know Gloria Welcome

When my broker, J. P. Endres, asked me one day how I would feel if the office merged, my immediate response was, "well, it all depends on who you are going to merge with".  Take a guess, she said.  So I guessed a few, none of which I was interested in going to.  In fact, I flat out told her that if she merged with one particular office, "I was out of there!".  Finally I guessed the right one!  Kevin O'Shea, formerly American Classic Homes.  Now the new office is Homes of Westchester.

The travel time for me didn't make a difference.  We were previously located in Scarsdale and now we are in White Plains, both a short drive for me.  White Plains is the hub of Westchester County, but the traffic enforcement agents are quite "adept".  At our previous location, we were accustomed to pulling right into the parking lot, now we either park on the street or in the municipal lot and feed the meters.  Within my first few weeks, I had a ticket!  Well, at least it's not New York City where parking tickets are a king's ransom!

The merger has proved to be successful.  All of J.P.'s agent came to the new office and Kevin's agents stayed.  We also have two pleasant receptionists, Helen and Carolyn.

After several years working for a large Fortune 100 company, that company merged with another large company.  And you know what happens when there's a merger?  Yep, you guessed it!  Reorganization and attrition.  My position was relocated 50 miles away so  I found myself in outplacement (what a word).  I put my resume together and set out to look for another position.  But my heart wasn't really in it.  I had had enough of corporate America!  So I had to decide what I was going to do with the rest of my life.

One day I was talking with one of my former bosses and he suggested real estate.  What a good idea!  It afforded me the opportunity to learn something new, transfer my skills to another industry, meet people, escape the boring 9 to 5 rat race, and somewhere along the way sell a property or two!  So off I went to real estate school in pursuit of my license and a new career.  SUNY Purchase here I come!  It just so happens that I had just received their new continuing education catalog and there it was--a real estate licensing class.  The course was given on 3 weekends, all day Saturday and Sunday and on the last Sunday, I took the school test.  Little did I know at the time that trying to understand Agency was going to give me a royal headache to say the least!  The following Tuesday, I took the state licensing test and passed!

I was born and raised in New York City and moved to Westchester when I married.  Now I had to learn how to get to these destinations to show homes.  And this happened before mapquest and GPS!  So I outlined by routes using the Hagstrom map.  Somehow I'd get there and always found my way home!

Now I'm involved in the world of real estate.  I volunteered for committees at the Westchester County Board of Realtors and to this day serves on the fair housing committee.  I also hold membership in the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR), FIABCI (The International Real Estate Federation) and became a Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS).

Certifications

I will work with all buyers, and, of course sellers.  But particularly enjoy sharing in the joy of a first time home buyer.  I've helped them achieve the American dream!

Transferring my skills from working in human resources in the international divison of a large company, I had to pay attention to detail when converting salaries from U.S. dollars to local currencies and vice versa.  Those skills came with me to real estate.

I cater to my clients' requests whether they are purchasing a co-op, condo, a million dollar home or vacant land.  They will receive my professional service.

Shortly after obtaining my CIPS designation, I sold vacant land in the Bahamas.  Then this year came the big project in Costa Rica.

Just ask me for more details about my projects
