I went over to visit a good friend tonight, and she invited me in saying "her father was on the news, come see"... Just watching her father, a World War II Veteran speak on the television...I was moved. Her father, Mr. Jack Platt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is trying to organize a trip for World War II Veterans of The Grand Strand to visit the Memorial in Washington, D.C.  They will travel on a leased airplane (Myrtle Beach Direct Air) from Myrtle Beach, leaving in the morning, visit the Memorial, spend the day in Washington D.C and then return that night.Anyone who was in service prior to August 10, 1945 and has never had the opportunity to see this beautiful tribute, are eligible at no cost to them.  Please contact Mr. Platt though, as they can only take so many. Many cities around...

Went by the site of the future Hard Rock Theme park. Lots of bulldozers lots of guys in Hard Hats and the cranes are moving stuff around. Took some pictures of what will be the "crown Jewel', The Led Zeppelin Roller Coaster. Check it out. Lots of parts in the foreground for other coasters yet to be erected.Looks like a wild ride. but, The next picture really shows what a wild, exciting ride it really will be. This coaster is directly in the approach path for Myrtle Beach International Airport.Ok...you got me... I photo shopped the plane into the picture. But...really.. while I was there, 3 planes flew overhead on approach to the airport.

It's amazing how you take for granted places that you work around or drive by every day. Broadway at the Beach is one of those places that falls into that category for me.Broadway at the Beach was built by the Burroughs and Chapin Co. about 10 years ago, and it has been popular with our tourists ever since. It is a "must go to" place. The first time I ever went there, it reminded me of Disney's flavor with all the shops and restaurants surrounding the central lake. Here are some images from BATB.The palace theater has some of the finest entertainment in Myrtle Beach. Currrently showing "Le Grand Cirque" An acrobatic display equal to none. The day after I saw the show, My hands hurt... from applauding. The Imax Theater, with a 6 story tall screen, features 3-D movies.Magic Quest... find th...

This is my first post to Localism. Seeing as how my local area is Myrtle Beach, SC , Labor day is almost here. School is about to start. Some have started already. Time for the family to have a last fling before the Summer is gone. There are some that'll tell you that the face of Myrtle Beach changed with the demolition of The Pavillion Amusement Park. Well.... The Pavillion wasn't the only game in town.I had always taken my kids to Family Kingdom. Not only was it aptly named, It offered what the name implied, Clean Family Fun.I took my kids there the other day, it was hot, they, and a couple of friends had a blast. Here are some pics.On the Ferris wheelOcean Front Water ParkWooden Roller CoasterThe HurricaneThe SlingShotAntique CarsThe Bob SledThe Carousel...of course, a horse is a hor...

Which two words are more popular, according to search engine Yahoo - Lindsay Lohan or Myrtle Beach? Yahoo reported last week that the term "Myrtle Beach" was the top hit on its search engine, ahead of top searches like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. In addition, AOL reported that Myrtle Beach is the most-searched beach in the United States. And if that weren't enough, a national survey ranked Myrtle Beach as the second most popular family summer leisure destination, right behind Orlando, Florida. We're in good company! "All of this positive attention could encourage more visitors to consider Myrtle Beach," said Brad Dean, of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. The Hard Rock Park and The Market Common, both scheduled to open next spring, could also be generating the added interest. ...

A walk around the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base shows a small city rising out of the ground as steel beams push into the sky. The Market Common, an urban village with 600,000 square feet of retail will open April 3, 2008. It will offer a walkable shopping and living environment with restaurants, parks, a grocery store and movie theater. Condos and townhomes will surround the village, allowing residents to never have to set foot in a car to shop or eat. Investors, second-home buyers and even locals looking for something different are purchasing the 580 condominiums and 905 townhomes surrounding the retail village. But renters shouldn't feel left out. Above all the high-end retail will be 195 one- and two-bedroom apartments. Those will start renting in April when the village introduc...

Hard Rock Park and Myrtle Beach.  Those two are becoming more and more synonymous with each other.  Myrtle Beach is very lucky to be the place of choice for the first ever Hard Rock Park.  Myrtle Beach is also lucky to part of the first ever Sara's Beach Walk.  The event is a 3 day, 45 mile walk on the beach that will take place September 20-22.  After the walk is completed, there will be a concert along with other entertainment at the Hard Rock Backstage Tour.  This should be a good time for all involved while helping out a good cause.  Sara's Beach Walk was started by the CEO of Hard Rock Park, Steven Goodwin.  The goal is to make this an annual event with the hopes of eventually building a SOS Children's Village here in Myrtle Beach.  The charity was started in honor of Steven's wife...

By now, you are probably well aware of the fact that Myrtle Beach is home of the world's first ever Hard Rock Park.  What you may not have known is that Africa Israel is the majority shareholder in the park.  This company is a big time investor that only invests in projects that they feel really strong about.  They also only invest in areas that they see as having a lot of growth and developmental potential.  This is great news for us in Myrtle Beach, as well as the entire state of SC.  As one of the few "locals" still remaining in Myrtle Beach, I am very excited to see something of this magnitude come here.  It can only mean good things for our city, state, and our economy.  It really feels good to know that big developers and investors from all over are finally beginning to realize th...
