"Andrea, I gotta tell you, I just love my new home! I love coming home. I love the building. I love being able to walk everywhere. Every morning I wake up happy, enjoying the view over Patapsco Valley State Park while drinking my cup of tea on the balcony. Everybody who comes to visit me, loves it. When I open the double doors and they see the windows, the light, the view... they are just wowed. It's peaceful here. It's so me. I still can't believe I get to live here. I can't believe you found me exactly what I was looking for. You nailed it."These words are just too beautiful to not share. This is what it's all about. This is what I work for. The mission is never to find just any house, but the one that is perfectly right for you.Ā Ready to begin writing your very own Real Estate story?...

I wake up at 6 something AM as daughter 1 stomps down the stairs. When I open my eyes I find my dog nose to nose with me, tail wagging and full of energy. Before I can roll out of bed, my phone goes nuts. Dings, calls, texts, push notifications and what not. All at once.Ā The HCPSS (Howard County Public School System for all who are not in Maryland) alert system asks me to "please be aware of possible disruptions to bus services this morning. Check your emails for full details. Schools will notify impacted families."I check my email. Nothing. I pity all the other families for a brief moment, shout "bye honey, I love you" as D1 heads out the door, and "good morning love" to D2 who proceeds to the kitchen to turn on the coffee maker for me (I love her.) and then takes out the dog for his m...

I love a good challenge, especially when it's for a good cause.Ā When I was looking for a new challenge (because clearly a crazy-good Real Estate market or 4 hours on a bike aren't enough šŸ˜‰ ) I didn't have to search long. A trail race happening at Rockburn Branch Park in Elkridge, MD on December 4th jumped off the virtual page and straight into my heart. This one could not be ignored.Ā This is a challenge I just had to accept. And since my broker Cherie and I are like two peas in the Real Estate pod, we decided to run this one together.Ā You see, at Thompson Company, REALTORSĀ® we care. We value our deep roots in the community and always look for opportunities to support our local business friends, to make a difference, and to raise awareness. We've participated in clean-up days, we've pedal...

Busboys & Poets just opened their newest location in the Merriweather District in Columbia, MD, perfectly timed with my birthday šŸ˜‰ Thank you kindly!Ā It's been years since I stopped by the one in Hyattsville always hoping that they'll open one up in Howard County, closer to home & office. I just love the blend of restaurant/coffee shop/bar/bookstore and event space, and align with Busboys & Poets philosophy which is literally the writing on their wall:Ā  Busboys and Poets"is a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifteda place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul...a space for art, culture, and politics to intentionally collide...we believe that by creating such a spacewe can inspire social change and begin to transform our community an...

Is now a good time to buy? is one of the most frequently asked questions I hear from clients and customers, neighbors, at social get-togethers, at the gym or from strangers who can't resist giving my assistant Lennon some attention while we are out running the trails.Ā My answer since 2004 has been: if you are financially ready and stable and need/want a new home, then now is a good time to buy.Ā Leaving personal reasons aside, then the answer is mostly driven by numbers (plus your ability to buy). According to Realtor.com the best time to buy in 2021 nationally was the first week of October:"This week historically has shown the best balance of market conditions that favor buyers. Inventory tends to be high, prices are below peak levels, demand is waning, and pace of the market slows to a...

Mission accomplished. Goal crushed. Heart & mind happy (body... well, that's a different story).Ā On Saturday I participated in a Ride of a Life Time at my local Life Time Fitness in Columbia, MD. I had signed up as a challenge rider, agreeing to ride allĀ  four cycling classes offered that day and then some. In an effort to exceed my fundraising goal, I boldly challenged my peeps to bet $10 against me being able to ride four hours non-stop. 240 minutes. Zero breaks.Ā I did it. I got on the bike just before 8 AM and got off at noon. At the end of the four hours, I had a full heart, an empty belly and two sore legs... and much gratitude and love for all who supported my effort, my team member's efforts and the entire event. I proudly pedaled for a purpose and sweated for a great cause, and ...

Challenge accepted. In 2011 Mike Cooper, Broker VA,WV, MD and I cycled for a few hours to save the tatas. This Spinning marathon was not only a lot of fun but also a very successful fundraiser for the Susan B. Komen foundation.Ā In my prior life I was a certified SpinningĀ® instructor and although I now only ride among the crowd vs. upfront, I still very much enjoy a good AMP'd up workout. When the chance presents itself to sweat for a good cause, even better! Sign me up!This Saturday I will be participating in RIDE of a Life Time at my local Life Time Fitness gym in Columbia, MD. Of course I had to sign up as a challenge rider and will be riding all 4 classes from 8 am until noon. This cycling event is a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network (nationally) and the Johns Hopkins Chil...

5782 Main Street in Elkridge, MD is technically not a home, but it IS incredibly charming. I simply must include it in my series of Charming Homes of the Week for several reasons. Elkridge, MD is a town in Howard County that has often been forgotten while county resources were poured into its prominent (and more affluent) neighbors, Ellicott City and Columbia. Slowly, but surely, the trend is reversing and revitalization efforts are underway. The county invested major bucks in building an Elementary School on Ducketts Lane, a new library + senior center on Route 1, a new fire department and developing Troy Hill Park.Ā All good stuff but even better is the private investment that has gone into rehabbing 5782 Main Street, the building also known as the Rowles-McCauley-Petrlik house and sto...

This cute condo on Ducketts Lane in Elkridge, MD just set a record: highest net sales price in the history of the subdivision!Ā 6344 Ducketts Ln is a 3 bedroom home at the end of a cul-de-sac. It's location in the subdivision was one of a few reasons why this one was under contract in no time. Backing to woods, the view is quite special. Who wouldn't enjoy having nature at one's window sill?Besides the picturesque view and large deck for summer BBQs, this condo also came with all new luxury plank vinyl on the main level, an updated kitchen, updated baths, a lower level rec room with wood-burning fireplace, and all major things (windows, roof, HVAC, water heater) replaced in recent years.Ā The lucky buyer knew that this was the one as soon as she walked in and made a strong offer that my s...

There's no question, the best place for sushi in Howard County, MD is UMI Sushi right on Main Street in Ellicott City!I like to take my assistants out for a special dinner after (especially challenging but rewarding) transactions, and last week we stopped by UMI Sushi! We didn't make reservations, thinking we would arrive early enough on a weekday, but UMI was packed. There was immediate availability inside but if you go to UMI during the summer months, you have to sit outside and enjoy their lovely patio with views of the Tiber stream.Ā Ā UMI's sushi is melt-in-your-mouth good, and super fresh (they gut and prepare the salmon themselves, every morning). Quality is consistent, I have never left UMI's feeling anything but happy, satisfied, and full (mixed with a bit of regret that the dinn...

This week's charming home is a condo that used to be a classroom in historic Ellicott City - a home that I just helped my client buy. This is a story of a perfect match, things that are just meant to be, the law of attraction and the happiest of endings, or new beginnings. More about that another time though because today, it's all about the condo that used to be a classroom! The Greystone, also known as the Schoolhouse among the locals, dates back to the first half of the 19th century, and was built to house an academy for men. It later became Rock Hill College and then an Elementary and High School for Ellicott City. The stone building with its 18 inch thick walls sourced from the local quarry burned out twice. After the second time, the shell reigned eerily above Main Street for about...
