City of Boca Raton Area Profile Boca Raton Map - Demographics - Strategic Plan - Future of Boca The meaning of the name Boca Raton has always aroused curiosity. Many people wrongly assume the name is simply Rat's Mouth. The Spanish word boca (or mouth) often described an inlet, while raton (literally mouse) was used as a term for a cowardly thief. But the "Thieves Inlet," Boca Ratones, appeared on eighteenth century maps associated with an inlet in the Biscayne Bay area of Miami. By the beginning of the nineteenth century, the term was mistakenly applied to Lake Boca Raton, whose inlet was closed at the time. The "s" and later the "e" were dropped from this title by the 1920s, yet the correct pronunciation remains Rah-tone. The earliest known inhabitants of the Boca Raton area were the ...

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...Federated Department Stores has inked a deal with Così to add their Coffee and Bread cafes to Macy's stores.  (click here for a menu)There are already three of these new concepts located in South Florida Macy's Stores in The Aventura Mall in Aventura, Florida, The Falls Mall in Miami, Florida, The Fashion Mall in Plantation, Florida, and Dadeland Mall in Miami, Florida.  The Aventura Mall location has two Così spots...a kiosk in the kitchenware area on the second level and a cafe on the first level. The addition of Così to Macy's is an obvious move to making more of an overall destination location feel to Macy's stores across the nation.  Much like at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, the cafe will create a new shopping experience for store cu...

I reside in The Shores at Boca Raton for 2 years now.  I looked at over 30 subdivisions in Boca Raton, and really felt at home at The Shores at Boca Raton.  4 years ago I purchased a brand new home in Wellington, FL in a community called Olympia.  It was big, beautiful and surprisingly affordable.  My wife and I were very excited as this was the first home we built from scratch.  We move in and that was where the excitement stopped.  We had some really crazy neighbors that made us actually move. The Shores at Boca Raton is where we call home now, and I can assure you we knocked on doors before purchasing.  The neighborhood is as important as your home.  The Shores is directly across South County Regional Park which has a water park, ball fields, picnic area, a future golf course, and amp...

In the movie Die Hard, John McClain (Bruce Willis) is telling someone he doesn't like travelling and he never feels at home.   He replies, "Get there, take a shower and put your feet on the carpet.  Make fists with your toes on the carpet and you'll feel good."  One of the next scenes, John does this and feels better....Why?  I believe it is a feeling of connectedness and familiarity with the dwelling.Home is  where you go and just thinking about your cool sheets (I live in a Tropical climate!) and the fluffy pillows that you use every night regardless of age and wear makes you feel secure and erases the stresses of SELLING OR FINANCING HOUSES all day.For a personal story about my home in South Florida, check this out Boca Raton Florida Mortgage | What makes a House a Home no matter whe...

In December of 2004, Bill Knight of Highland Beach, FL introduced his latest vision of combining gas stations with other markets.  Being no stranger to the these types of ventures, Mr. Knight developed the first combination gas station and convenience store in Florida in 1969.  The NexStore MarketPlace takes this idea to a whole new level.                                                           Part gas station, part convenience store, part gourmet chef restaurant, part deli, part bakery, etc... the NexStore MarketPlace brings fine dining cuisine to the fast paced, always on the go residents of South Florida (South Palm Beach County and Northern Broward County).  These healthy meals-to-go are offer those on the go a better alternative to the traditional fast food chains. In addition to...

So, last month, one of my Girlfriends from Atlanta came to visit and wanted to go to a Spa for Massages. Europa Medi Spa in Boca Raton, FL in the Shoppes at Village Pointe was one of my recommendations and we ended up going there.  She got a Massage and a Facial and I got the Hot Stone Massage, which is my favorite Massage of all, whenever I go for a Massage.  It was great, the staff was top notch and the Spa was very relaxing.  They also have a really cool Sauna Room and I spent some time there after my Massage.  If you're in the area and want a great Massage, Facial, European Body Wrap, or a variety of other Spa services, be sure to check them out!   Here's info on their exact location and hours:Europa Medi SpaShoppes at Village Pointe (in the back)6018 SW 18th Street, Unit C-11  Boca...

For those of you that don't know me... sometimes before I go to bed, I will take my trusty HP iPaq hx4705 to bed with me and read the local news.  I have several sections I read so that I stay up on my local goings-on.  I read both the Sun-Sentinel and the Palm Beach Post.  The Sentinel is a better all around paper but the Post covers news in the county where I live city by city which has its pluses...The articles that I tend to be drawn to are great fodder for blogging - REAL ESTATE CONDITIONS.Last night I came across 4 - count 'em - 4 articles about Florida as the choice for Snowbirds and Baby Boomers to move to in the next few years....
