Useless. They're using a metric that doesn't apply to an individual situation.

This kind of information doesn't make any sense to me.  How can you determine how fast a person / family can save?  It depends on so many factors.

Interesting factoid that reinforces Cali as an expensive place to live (second compared to Hawaii)... but as a state we all know that already.  LOL!  Interesting from a statistics point, but as others have said there are too many factors involved for people's specific cases.

Wow! Very eye opening. According to the US government, most people have $0 saved.

Florida is 5.38 years. In central Florida, a nice starter 3/2 is about $200,000 to $250,000. FHA is 3.5% down.

This equates to $7,000 to $8,750. If a person or family was able to save $100 a month, this would take them 60 months (or 5 years) to 87.5 months (or 7.3 years).

It's a metric... a map in and of itself might not be useful, but information provided "around" the metric could be very useful to a buyer. If used in social media, could be a conversation opener.

There are so many variables that go into the ability to "Save" money for a down payment - or anything else for that matter.  But the map could be useful for generalization of a buyer's timeline for saving money for their DP.

This is a very cool map - Depending on the state you are in there are a variety of ways you could use it promotionally, to coach young renters about buying, target people in the orange states to move to yours. Just top of mind thoughts.

Our median price is in the low 200K.   That means 6000 down on a 97% loan.  That's only $100 per month saved?  How serious are these people about buying a house?  Get a second job.  Cut out the TV cable, Panera, mow your own lawn, etc. and pile up that money!

It does a good job of relating the cost of homes in an area to the median income for the area. I don't think it helps me. It may help a buyer who is looking to purchase & has a choice of what state they want to move to.

I do believe it is nice to have, but there is too many variables that would influence each particular individual. I think something more focused on your focus/target market would be more useful.

I like seeing the KCM on the graphic, but it really makes me cringe seeing Z there as well.

The map is just a tool. It can be helpful if you display it correctly. For me, I might use it in a blog post regarding average home prices. The map can be a visual to compare average home price vs average salary around the country. Also, could discuss % of renters vs home owners. I wouldn’t base my post around the map, but would certainly use it within an interesting article.

I think it is interesting to see this map as a whole. There's more to the story and in some areas it may depend on location. In NC, there are price differences depending on area you're in. Plus, there are some areas you can get 100% financing so no need to save.

I think that it tells an agent what states are most affordable but I'm not sure that a consumer gets it. I'm not sure it's a good idea - in some states it seems hopeless. There is also the HPI (??) Index I think.
