A home inspector is more than just an experienced tradesman; he or she is a master of a discipline that is unique unto itself. I'm proud to offer my clients a wide range of knowledge and experience gained through my training as a Certified Home Inspector, tradesman, and writer.
As a NACHI Certified Home Inspector, I'm required to fulfill an annual continuing education program that is FOUR TIMES more rigorous than the Illinois licensing standards. For more about NACHI certification requirements, click here .
Licensed, Insured, Experienced, and Trustworthy
I am a Certified Member of NACHI, (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors), and am licensed to practice Home Inspection in the State of Illinois. I passed the State of Illinois Pre-Licensing exam on my first try. I am also committed to NACHI's required 24 hours of Continuing Education per year (four times the level of Continuing Education required by the State of Illinois!). In addition to all the required pre-license classroom training and state-required field training, I have also successfully completed the following specialty classes: the NACHI "Ethics Obstacle Course," the NACHI Continuing Education Program on the Standards of Practice, the NACHI Continuing Education Program on Electrical Inspections, and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory's course, "Mold, Allergens, Sampling, and Report Interpretation." In March 2007 I became IAC2 Certified.
An Intelligent Inspector with a Background in the Trades
I became a home inspector after working as a scenic carpenter and home repair specialist for over a decade. I worked on my own for many years as a remodeler and handyman; this experience gave me first-hand knowledge of every major system found in the home. I have also worked as a professional carpenter for North Light Theatre, The Organic Theatre, and Theatre Building Chicago. I was a welder and carpenter for Northwestern University Theatre, and have been a professional carpenter for local scene shops such as Scenic View and Big City Sets. I have worked as a carpenter for numerous trade shows, television commercials, and conventions, including clients such as Nike, Sheraton, and M&M/Mars. I also enjoy cabinetmaking and fine wood working as a personal hobby.
Tom is a Great home inspector! He was available anytime my clients needed him, even on a Sunday. He made sure my clients knew everything there was to know about the houses we looked at. He pointed out the good and made sure my clients knew what would need attention immediately and in the future. His comprehensive report comes complete with pictures which is a big help when looking at homes
Tom did a wonderful job inspecting and evaluating several prospective homes for us last year. He helped us to select the one we purchased. We are very happy with his ability to inspect and evaluate the essential components of a home: foundation, heating, plumbing, electrical, and all the other important things needed to evaluate before purchasing a home. He could see all the things we couldn't see and he gave us all the right information! Thanks Tom!
Tom does his job very well. He is very thourough and gives his client a very real expectation level as to what to expect from his inspections. He conducts himself in a very professional manner and is very knowledgeable about his field of expertise. I would recommend him to any and all of my clients.
Tom was essential in my first purchase of a home in Chicago. His initial recommendations prevented me from a potentially horrific condo purchase and assisted me in locating my perfect home. You will find Tom to be honest and forthright. His final report goes above and beyond the anticipated inspection report with additional routine maintenance recommendations/information that I have found quite beneficial in the upkeep of my home.
