Starting next month on December 1, 2009 our once famous - now infamous tobacco state will join the ranks of other states as a new anti-smoking law takes hold in Virginia.  The Old Dominion will finally join the growing ranks of states that banned smoking in restaurants.  The new ban will allow restaurants in Virginia to have a smoking area only if they separate the smokers into rooms into rooms that have their owned contained ventilation systems separate from those that heat and cool those of non-smoking patrons.  Due to the expense of retrofitting a restaurant or eateries in this lackluster economy, it is expected that less than 10% of restaurants will accommodate this segregated smoking arrangement provision. Most restaurants will just comply, and forego the conversion.  So for the mo...

The most recent statistics for our MLS (MRIS*) were just released on November 10 for all October 2009 sales of homes in Loudoun Virginia.  Though Loudoun homes prices rose over .38% over last years average sales price, prices as a whole are still way off their peaks.  If we compare the average Loudoun homes sale price of $550,974 in October of 2005 to the Loudoun homes average sales price of $375,575 in October  of 2009 it shows us several things.  First of all the average home sales price of a single family Loudoun homes has fallen 31.83%.  It is not that the prices have dropped that much, but the number does show you where the action is...in much lower priced homes, and distressed Loudoun homes and properties.  Please keep in mind that sellers are also contributing more to make the sa...

The elections is finally over and we have a few winners.  It was reported in the news tonight that we have a new conservative Governor, Republican Bob McDonnell. Bob McDonnell was also the former state attorney general of Virginia. It has been reported by many news sources this evening that Gov. McDonnell easily won the election, and had a strong showing especially in the suburban areas of Prince William and Loudoun VA.   Democrats, and Independents were a big help in the election, and Governor Bob McDonnell thank them for their support in  speech a short wile ago.  We wish you well in your new office. LT. GOVERNOR: Bill Bolling a republican also won. ATTORNEY GENERAL: was won by Republican State Senator Ken Cuccinelli

LEESBURG VIRGINIA REAL ESTATE IS A BLEND OF HISTORY AND CONVENIENT RESIDENTIAL HOMES. Leesburg is one of the oldest towns in Northern Virginia dating back to the mid 1700s when it was the county seat of Loudoun County and still is. Leesburg was a major location for battles in the War of 1812 where vital documents including the Declaration of Independence and others were brought to Leesburg for safekeeping. The spirit of the 1700-1800s is reflected in the town of Leesburg, a wonderful area to tour, shop for antiques or have a delightful lunch. During the Civil War, many homes and shops in Leesburg served as hospitals and military outposts. Every time I turn around there is some special event for DOGS here in Leesburg.  Sheesh!  You'd think they were part of the family or something. Not too long ago, the "off leash" dog park opened at Olde Isaak Walton Park in Leesburg (just off Rte 15/King Street on the south side of town, near the Bloom grocery store).  Olde Isaak Walton is a a 21 acre park with a small stream, huge 3 1/2 acre lake, a community center, picnic areas, hiking trails and now an off leash dog park. The weekend after the official closing of the AV Symington Aquatic Park (aka the Water Park/Outdoor Pool at Ida Lee), they offered a "Dog Swim" with proceeds of the event supporting the non profit organization "Leesburg Dogs" who will use the money to continue its efforts to maintain the existing dog park, and they ...

Happy Birthday, Leesburg!  Two hundred fifty one years ago today, The Town of Leesburg was created by the Virginia General Assembly.Leesburg is located just 35 miles outside Washington, DC, in the Virginia Piedmont between the Potomac River and the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountain range.Originally the town was called George Town, in honor of the king of Great Britain, but was renamed Leesburg for the Lee family of Virginia.  The town's location was near the center of the county, and located at the major crossroads of Carolina Road (which ran north-south) and Leesburg Turnpike (which still runs east-west through the town).  Thus, it was the center of commercial and political activities in the county and was governed by a Board of Trustees until 1813.  Few people know that the Town of...

I have always wanted to do this Haunted Buffer Dinner at the Green Tree Restaurant, but never had a chance since my daughters were off trick-or-treating while my husband and I remained home to welcome our halloween guests.   This event, according to reports, is "not recommended for the faint of heart!  It, supposedly, is the scarest tour in the D.C. area.                                                                                                  It begins with the Cornfield Maze, just outside of Leesburg on Route 15 North.  The largest and most legendary maze in the world!  Normal admission is $10, free under 5 years of age.  You will then drive yourself to the Green Tree Restaurant, which originally opened in the 18th century. here, you will be offerd a menu which reflects recipes...

LEESBURG BIKING AND HIKING TRAIL.  BONDING IN TANDEM. If I had to describe my very favorite outdoor scene viewed in my many miles of touring towns and cities in my real estate market area, my very favorite is the below.  DADs know. . . . . .                        THE W & OD BIKING AND HIKING TRAIL always has walkers, bikers, runners, hikers, strollers and other folks enjoying the trail and the sites along the trail.  While driving Catoctin Circle Saturday, I spotted this tandem bike while stopped for the red light that permits folks on the trail to cross streets in Leesburg.  Red light for me meant green light for this pair on a tamdem bike with a full sized bike in the lead and child sized follow up.  Both were pumping furiously and going moving along at a good rate which I estimated ...
