You may have heard about this already but wanted to share with you: Fannie Mae prohibits commission reduction in short sales On February 24, 2009, Fannie Mae amended its Servicing Guide regarding real estate broker commissions and the manner in which commissions were commonly reduced in a short sale (pre-foreclosure) situation. This amendment to the Fannie Mae Servicing Guide applies to all Fannie Mae lenders after March 1, 2009. After March 1, 2009, all Fannie Mae lenders are prohibited from reducing a real estate broker's commission as long as the commission does not exceed 6 percent. These same rooms rank high in return on remodeling investment at resale, according to Remodeling Magazine's Cost-vs-Value 2008-09 Study. However, both can be pricey ventures.
