Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach Florida has been around for as long as I can remember. Originally founded in Ship Bottom New Jersey by Ron DiMenna in 1959, this is one surfer's paradise that has really expanded! Ronnie and I stopped by Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach while we were over there last weekend. No trip to Cocoa Beach could be complete without a trip to Ron Jon's! Coconuts on the Beach is a favorite Cocoa Beach watering hole and restaurant with a great view. These photos were taken on a lazy afternoon during the week but on weekends the place rocks! These classic Indian Bikes immediately caught my eye as I was walking toward Cocoa Beach by Coconuts. Indian Motorcycles were manufactured in the USA from 1901 to 1953 and now a new company has been manufacturing the latest version since 2006. I start my daily bike ride around 6 or 7pm and take along my trusty (and small) Canon point and shoot just in case. My route takes me along Ridgewood Ave. to the Cocoa Beach Pier where the first two photos were taken, then back to Jump's Tiny Tavern to throw a few horseshoes. From there, I head toward the Port and back home again after stopping briefly at the beach crossover at Taylor Ave. to watch the surf roll in. Life is good! Many people were calling it a day when I arrived. Do you think the Pier has enough signs? :-) These young ladies were having fun staying fit playing vollyball while others chose to relax watching the waves. Another great Saturday at Jump’s Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach.  Tom and I won the horseshoe tournament and then I won the ringer tournament right afterwards. I shot 5 ringers out of 8 shoes and won this special one time trophy. There was a total of 18 really good players and everyone had a great time as always. It’s the best entertainment around for 5 bucks! My wife said my computer area is starting to look like a “Man Cave” with all the hockey stuff and now a trophy ;-) The Horeshoe Kings - Tom and John Next week we do it all over again! It's sunset week on my blog but there wasn't much of a sunset last night so here's what I saw after all the rain. I'm just thankful that I have my health and a happy home. A week of Atlantic onshore winds blew in purple piles of Mauve Stinger Jellyfish. Even though they were warned, swimmers still went in the water and a few hundred got stung. The majority of the critters were found from Cocoa Beach to Satellite Beach and no major heath problems were reported. Florida "Crackers" say meat tenderizer helps with the pain while others recommend vinegar or benedryl. Fortunately, they blow back out to sea when the wind shifts. Could this be Will Smith and friend wading through the Jelly Fish on Cocoa Beach? There's no jellyfish at the Mai Tiki Bar on the Cocoa Beach Pier. Before heading to the beach, a parent can write a phone number and any vital information on the bracelet, and put it on their child's wrist. The 2nd Annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach Superboat Races were held on Sunday May 22, 2011 and I was there with my Nikon D90 to snap a few photos. My previous post showed the boats on dry land at Port Canaveral but these babies were meant to roar and spray their way through the ocean waves. It takes two people to drive a Super Powered Boat - one on the wheel and one on the throttle. The vibration is vision blurring. WH Motorsports catches air while roaring around the turn marker. The second annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach Superboat races wil take place on Sunday May 22, 2011. Last year's event was a huge success and pumped a lot of money into the local economy. I went to the Port today to snap a few photos of these monster boats while they were on display. Saturday they are in the water for trial runs and the races start at 11:00 am on Sunday. Easter is the last day of the 47th annual Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival at the Cocoa Beach Pier. The event started Fri. 4/22 and ends today. As well as surfing, there was a sunrise service, easter egg hunts, a Special Olympics surfing demo and lots of bands and parties. This is one of the best surfing feativals on the east coast and continues to draw huge crowds every year. If that wasn't enough, Melbourne hosted their annual art festival this week end as well. There is always lots to do here on the Space Coast. This year the surfing museum featured "Kelly...The Exhibit" in honor of Cocoa Beach hometown boy and 10 time world champion surfer Kelly Slater. Every Saturday Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach, Florida hosts a horseshoe tournament. There some pretty good players here and not one of them would be caught dead wearing a tutu except for this day. Tavern owner Angel added another $100 into the winners pot if the final three teams wore tutus for their last games. Money talks and here are the photos of these wild and crazy guys :-) I couldn't play due to my current hip and back injury so I grabbed my camera instead. Hopefully, I'll be back playing again soon. There is a horseshoe tournament every Saturday at 2 pm at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach. It's a great way to spend a sunny afternoon and the beach is just minutes away. Owners Angel and Steve make sure everyone is happy and quite often the regulars bring in crock pot delights with nachos. Mike's is a favorite tasty treat. Bartender Cheryl buys pizza many times to thank her customers and Angel is always making sure everything runs smoothly. Welcome to "CHEERS" Cocoa Beach style. Cocoa Beach Bike and Bar-A-Thon riders enjoy a beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Cocoa Beach, Florida. They do a lot of work for local charities and have some fun and exercise in the process. On selected Saturdays, they ride to six bars in six hours and everyone rides responsibly. They also have an annual charity fund raiser. The young lady on the left is carrying two 16 oz. PBR's @ $2.00 each at Jump's Tiny Tavern. What a deal and you can walk to the beach in two minutes!
