Info That Hits Us For The Week Of February 15, 2016Plenty of people last week were banking on getting a mortgage at today's fine rates, as mortgage applications shot up 12% compared to the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Their report showed most of the gain came from a new wave of home owners refinancing to latch onto the dropping rates. But the MBA said purchase applications were up too, evidence that home buyers are also taking advantage of the current rate environment. The unadjusted MBA Purchase Index was up 7% over the prior week and is now 25% above where it was the same week a year ago. The MBA Builder Application Survey delivered more good news. Mortgage applications for new home purchases shot up 14% in January, a nice rebound from December's...

Flooring Options That Will Help Enhance Your InteriorThinking about giving your floor a facelift? You've got several flooring options, including the following: Hardwood -- Hardwood is a classic choice that works with any architectural style and can last for more than a century with the right care. Maintenance is a cinch and repairs are simple enough when normal wear occurs or pets leave their mark. That said, keep in mind that wooden floors can be cold and loud if they're not accessorized with rugs. Carpet -- Carpet, whether natural or synthetic, is one of the more versatile flooring options. Wool carpeting is durable and resists moisture and stains better than synthetic fibers like nylon and acrylic. Easy cleaning and natural insulation properties for both sound and temperature are ups...

Have The Recent Sales Activity Taken A Break?  Sales growth has ground to a halt. Sales of existing homes dropped to 5.36 million on an annualized rate for October. That's a 3.4% decline from September sales.  Year-over-year sales growth has dropped to 3.9%, the lowest reading since January. Supply is still an issue. It currently stands at 4.8 months at October's sales rate. A year ago, supply stood at 5.2 months.  Despite the recent spat of negative news, we remain positive. When economic growth is considered, it's possible the past two months of sales and price data are an anomaly. The economy continues to grow, with third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) revised up to 2.1% annualized growth.  The initial report last month showed growth at 1.5%. Readings on consumer activity remai...

MY BANK ACCOUNT!!! This is AWESOME ... something we should all remember. A 92-year-old, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait..' 'That...

DID EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS SEAL THE DEAL FOR PAYROLL GAINS?  October was huge for the economy. Payrolls surged by 271,000, handily beating all economists' estimates. The month saw the strongest monthly payroll gains since last December. The surge in employment, in turn, dropped the unemployment rate down to 5%, the lowest it has been since May 2008. They have been saying for a while now that a fed funds rate increase is coming, but the facts have changed. Even so, it’s important to remember, even if the Fed does raise the fed funds rate, that doesn't mean rates are going higher. When the Fed made its other major policy change – to systematically withdraw from quantitative easing two years ago – rates ran up until the time the Fed begin to withdraw. Rates then drifted lower by a full percent...
