Before Ralphie There Was Howland Hughes in Waterbury CTAs a kid, the Christmas season was special and nothing in the area was as unique as the Christmas village in the basement of the Howland Hughes Department store in downtown Waterbury CTIt was a store in the model of Macy's or Gimbel's with the huge open atrium that went all the way to the top floors.  One could see the displays from below as well.  The elevator was attended by a person in a uniform with that lever actuator and close and open the gate before the doors are opened.But the heart started to pump and the eyes were large when we would go down stairs where the toys were neatly stacked and off to the side at the end of the toy aisles was The Place.  There was Santa's chair and all would line up for a chance to tell him what ...

As I was passing a park this past summer, I noticed a lot of activity at the base of a reservoir retainer wall. People had cameras out and were highly focused at a gathering on the hillside.Not being in a hurry, I stopped to see what was generating the interest.  On the hill was a spread out formation of baseball players, all appropriately masked standing proud.Getting the team photo in a wallet size would make it tough to find your favorite player.
