Redding CA - Saturday was a Great Day - Farmer's Market - Dead Bluff and More--Yesterday was such a wonderful day. Fall is here and we were out and about all day. Started with the Farmer's Market. I went looking for my special pumpkin....and found it. We brought home veggies for the weeks menus and my RAM came for my machine. Installed the RAM this AM....I'm blazing now! We also headed down to Red Bluff to see a car. We are in the market for a 4 wheel drive vehicle for Winter. I called it Dead Bluff in the title and seriously, it is a charming little town with historical charm. We stumbled on a lovely spot to take some photos and enjoyed our trip. Lower Clear Creek Rehabilitation Project - Succesful Spawing Salmon in Increasing Numbers--I love good news like this. Only ten years ago, the Lower Clear Creek tributary was a death trap for Salmon, Trout and any other fish in the creek. The creek long ago decimated by years of gold mining was divided into seven channels. The water flow so low that the fish would over heat and die. Ten years ago the Chinook salmon had dwindled to 1,200. Restoration efforts by local, state and federal agencies have resulted in an increasing number of Salmon spawing and the number now reaches 16,000. This is a huge success for our local community. Let me qualify that title....I can't imagine anyone not using Picnik some of the time if not all of the time. Who would not realize benefits from this value-oriented program? I remember when I first started with AR and began to learn about blogging. I owe a great deal to the generous members of AR who on a constant basis help others to learn the basics of blogging. I've been struggling with a system that has 1MB of RAM. I keep draining the RAM memory all the time and my system downgrades over time. Just running Firefox and ActiveRain is a challenge for my system. So....after reading a featured article by Deb Brooks on Virus Programs (which I also needed to deal with), I decided it was time to put my attention on my computer and get that much needed RAM upgrade. Well, we bought the computer in one of those situations that comes up when people are closing their business doors and we got a great deal but it came without any documentation. Redding CA - Friday Fun Day - David Gendron - Photo Artist--Today is the day that I allow myself to celebrate my husband's work. He got his first DSLR about 7 or 8 years ago and a new Odessy began. About the same time, he got a very small and low resolution camera that was like credit card that he carried around in his pocket everywhere he went. He took more of his great photos with that little camera than every with the big DSLRs. He's had several DSLRs now and recently bought me a matching Canon XTi. Today, I am sharing a photo from the little camera in the early days and a more recent one with the Canon. I just wanted to thank everyone that came into comment on my quest to learn a new technique. I want the detail in photos but I want a softer feel overall. When I "sharpen" I often times don't like it and yet I want that detail there. I took two photos and ask everyone to compare them. I had taken the GIMP sharpened photo and used the "soften" feature in Picnick. Everyone pretty much liked the first version with a few who were more accepting of a stylized version. I've been working on it all morning....(I have to get to work...LOL) because really, I did not like either of them. Well, I've made progress....I think. No Picnik this time....not enough control in a jpg. Used GIMP and got a better result. It still has a ways to go but I am much happier with the result. I so appreciate everyone... 09/21/2011
