It really is an epidemic in so many areas and I blame the doctors (for a lot of things). NOT apples / apples, however.
You don't need a hazmat suit to go into a house where someone OD'd on opioids. A cookhouse is an entirely different story.

There is a difference between the two.

Meth home have hazardous chemicals from cooking the drug that affects the health of anyone accessing the home. (non drug users)

Opioid overdose affects the drug user.

I've had some education on that Naloxone stuff as well.  People make the mistake of not calling 911 and just giving that.  They still need a hospital.

Not sure why an opiod death would be comparable to a meth lab. This reminds me more of the 1990's when we had issues with homes where people died of AIDS. While I have one friend whose son died from an accidental opiod overdose (had been suffering since working at the WTC after 9/11), can't say I've come across this issue enough in my market to get trained to carry Naloxone.

The number of overdoses are staggering compared to the percentage that die from it. I'm saddened that you were compelled to carry this card. It very well could becomea full-time job for millions and not put a dent into the activity. 

At this point, the answer will likely vary by state/jurisdiction.  Be careful in practice and with disclosure.

My 90 year old mother suffered a fall a short time ago that resulted in hospitalization. The hospital and three different heal care practitioners, within 90 days, prescribed a 30 day supply of narcotics in the event she might experience pain. Do the math. That is 120 pills that are opioid. My 90 year old momma might have become an addict if not for an overprotective daughter. In the last instance she read the insert and caught the transgression herself.

This is a chronic failure in a health-care system dependent on pharma and dumps the results on the public.  Perfectly normal people made into addicts by following the instruction of the health care provider.

No, a house occupied by an addict who is killed by using heroin need not be treated as a meth lab. However each state has their own requirements regarding disclosure of death. 

Meth is a serious issue in a home due to the residual left due to the cooking process. Other types of drugs, as far as I know, don't have the serious medical issues retained in the building that meth does. Good for you for your certification, Jeff.

      Whenever the Government makes drugs illegal or hard to get, junkies will find a way to create their own.  Often, with hazardous results, like meth labs.

    As for selling a house that is/was a known drug lab, the standard rule applies:   Disclose, disclose, disclose!

congratulations on getting your certification.... smart man.... we're all surrounded by opioids.... and I know it's Dr.'s who make much of this happen initially.... I've had surgeries and my surgereon was generous with oxy dosages.... I reduced it to 5 mg....and then I didn't use it....did the entire after surgery gig with extra strength tylenol.... oxy scares the B'Jesus out of me. 

I do not see this as the same. If I walk into an untreated meth home I am in danger. I don't see the same thing for opioids.

It is a crisis out here Jeff. Most of our overdoses are fentanyl OD's done by the homeless. If they are making the fentanyl laced drugs in the home then yes they should be treated like meth labs. If it is just an overdose in the home then I don't think so. 

It's a shame that our country is headed that direction but I suspect we'll see changes pretty soon because it's going to present a bigger danger than lead paint.

I thought you were kidding about Nalaxone until I opened the question and saw your card. That's a huge service to your community to take on that burden and it speaks to your concern for people. Many people don't want to get involved, but administering Narcan is going the extra mile and literally saving lives. Thanks for caring for the people in your community the way you do.

Good for you! Meth labs are actual factories with toxic materials and fire hazards. OD's are just people... they don't contaminate the home, they have an addiction.

I am not familiar enough with how that will damage a pro[perty to cause the property to be registered or require a cleanup.
