I have a solution to identifying more legitimate websites. Subscribe to free ahrefs.com account. Check domain authority. Anything above a 30 is a website that is at least "trying" to be a destination website. Anything that is 30-40 DA that has "tons" of content is probably a data aggregator(taking content with permission from other websites) and you can see of the data they are accumulating matches your interests.

Are two examples of sites that publish original content and aggregate other peoples.

Sorry this happened to you in Europe, John but, I totally agree with you - I have a difficult time finding ANY real news these days. And, sadly, other social media is posting and re-posting the bogus 'news' too!

As for links - I never click them unless I know the source - period!

I tend to avoid most of those sites.  Breitbart is the only news source I follow anymore... and even that is checked very infrequently.

Those hackers will steal anything, even an election.

Does not sound like a good experience.  I do agree that there is a lot of crap out there ... many scams. We cannot be too cautious.

The internet is so full of information that it's becoming difficult to find anything of quality and reliability.

We have been inundated by spam and suspicious emails - way more so than normal.

Legitimate news resources are far and few.  There are plenty of news sources that are fronts for other purposes including some real estate "news" sites.

Most of it is crap and looking to take your money. That is my blunt assessment. 

Believe very little of what you hear and a similar amount of what you see. Truth is elusive!

I don't quite understand what is happening to you.  We subscribe to just the Wall Street Journal and nothing else.  We did not have trouble in Europe with any of our devices when we worked over there. A

I have found that not clicking through and deleting solicitations like this a good defense... whether it's a phone, tablet or computer. Not sure what scams you are referring to... I just returned from Russia and Germany and had no issues with phone or laptop.
