YES! Warm air rises cool air falls, so reverse the direction depending on the season.

Our remodel 6 years ago excluded all ceiling fans but what I remember is that when we reversed them the dust would fly Fred Griffin

When I had a ceiling fan ... I did change direction. Having a bird with full flight (no clipped wings) meant that the fan had to go. Not worth the risk of an accident.

We seldom need to switch the fans in San Diego, they are 95% set for cool down summer mode. When I lived in the Bay Area I did switch them each winter and spring. Great questions BTW.

We change direction with the season and just changed our living room fans to blow down. During the winter they pull the air up.

Fred Griffin I see the logic for my southern neighbors but living up north we only use fans in summer unless the home has cathedral ceilings which the majority do not in my area. Thanks for tip

1. I don't... I have no ceiling fans in my house; don't like them and am more of a chandelier girl, myself. I only have ceiling fans on my porches and even those rarely get turned on.

Hi Fred,
I knew that it makes a diference but didn't know which way to change them. When you say counterclockwise, is that the view from the floor or the ceiling? Thank you!
