Yes (all three were):
me, now: Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor & Company
I used to be, I worked for Colbert Coldwell & Benjamin Banker for 12 years.
Then my first company was Cashin & Company Realty and that was Skip Cashin.
I think the brand in general is only as good as the reputation of the individual agents behind it and people hire sales-people, not sales-companies. I think agents think of the brand more than the public.

Its named after a person and is very, very well known in New Jersey. It would definatly add to its good will if it was sold.

No, we have three owners, and we are the largest privately owned firm in the state.
Not sure if it adds value or not....many "teams" are named after people, if that is a clue?!
Fast forward, it is sometimes hard to sell a firm with a persons name. Thinking ahead.

I think Keller Williams is doing just fine - and that it is so big not many people think of Gary Keller unless they are KW agents

In fact, named after two people although most people don't realize there was a Mr Coldwell and a Mr Banker and that we don't cash checks or have an ATM in the office.

It sure is, ME... I have thought long and hard about name changes over the years. I thought about a name without the personaization but our family has been in Real Estate for over 50 years and the last name is known. I still get referrals from generations of past clients

Its named after our founder, and it will affect the value if we were to sell it.

No it's not (RE/MAX)--but I did work at Halstead Property in NYC (a really big name) and at Helen Adams here in Charlotte (well-known, but not a big name) and also at Keller-Williams (which is a big name).

No my brokerage is a Keyword, Unless its Coldwell Banker or Bershire I think it does distract. Funny , when I started out my RE career I was at Coldwell Banker and everyday foreign tourist would walk in thinking it was a Bank.

No it is named after Pentagon Federal Credit Union. When I owned my own company it was named after me and my partner.

Good morning Bill. The real estate company that I used to own had my name, the company has since merged with another company, my name is still part of it.

No, ours is not. But our "NAME" is becoming popular in our area. A future sale would more than likely be positive for our broker..

Bill,
A good company is a good company regardless of the name...And in terms of resale, it doesn't matter, the buyer usually changes it anyway. A

Yes. It's named after me (ok, more like my family name). I don't think that has any impact on it's sale. I've known local family name based companies that sold out to Dilbeck back in the day with no problem.

No, when deciding between Joe Pryor Real Estate and The Virtual Real Estate Team the later is more sellable for my exit strategy. Unless I can find a Joe pryor in Oklahoma City who wants to be in real estate and wants to buy my business I think not using a name broadens your options.

As long as the name remains untarnished....it has value.
The risk is lies in the unpredictable future. Gerard, Cosby, Williams become liabilities.

No. RE/MAX is not named afte a person.
For many years, I effectively used my personal name in my company name.

Years ago I worked at a small company named after the broker. It worked well for her but not the associates!
