What type of retirement plan do you have?

Being self employed for the majority of my life, for many years I had an IRA, then rolled that over to a SEP-IRA, and then 10 years ago rolled over to a "self directed" solo-401k. If not for being such the inquisitive fool that I am, I would have never known what a self directed solo-401k was. It's very likely your accountant don't know what one is. Your banker probably don't know what one is, and only a handful of so-called "financial advisors" know what they are. So what's a guy or gal to do, if they want to take advantage of one of the biggest taxs breaks available to a small business person?

If you're single or married and have no employess, may I suggest you learn more about what a self directed solo-401k is and how it can greatly benefit your retirement goals.

I had a SEP for one year and then changed to a solo 401k. You can invest before or after tax funds or a combination, if you wish.

For realtors who have investment property, there's an IRS benefit for real estate professionals. Anyone interested can look it up on the IRS site or ask their tax professional about it.

I used several of the available retirement plans for a number of years as a self employed person. For me, the best key for success has been the use professional management for my retirement funds. I use Wetherby Asset Management in San Francisco.
