A house fire can devastate a family. October is Fire Safety Month and it's time to check the batteries in our smoke detectors again. Please follow the fire safety tips to protect the ones you love and have a fire safety plan for your family. Including the smallest members. Did you know that over 500,000 pets are affected by house fires every year? Sadly, over 40,000 of them die from smoke asphyxiation. Thanks to the Bark 10-4 Program, you can help save the life of a pet by donating a Pet Oxygen Mask to your local fire department. There are over 30,000 fire and EMT departments in the United States with several fire trucks each. If every engine had it's own mask, imagine the lives they could be saving. For only $25.00 you can donate a mask to the department of your choice. It's easy to do...

Here is a video  I created of a favorite business. And a recipe to use with their fruits in one of my favorite recipes from Paula Dean. I like to use with peaches and put with pork or you can use for a dessert over ice cream. Ingredients :* 1/4 cup bourbon * 2 sticks butter, softened * 2 cups light brown sugar, packed firmly * 2 lemons, juiced * 1/2 cup water * Assorted fruit cut in 1/2 (peaches or plums) Directions Put the bourbon into a saucepan over medium-high heat and bring it to a boil. Boil for 1 minute to burn off the alcohol. Add the butter, brown sugar, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a boil whisking until all the sugar is dissolved. Simmer for 5 minutes. Let cool to thicken. Toss fruit with the glaze to coat or brush glaze over fruit with a pastry brush. Place fruit on the g...

One of the best things to develop long term wealth is to own a home. And one of the best things to beat inflation is to buy a home. Home prices historically increase in price more than inflation. Why is this relevant now? Because interest rates are great by historic standards but they are not likely to stay that way. They are going to go up and soon, in fact they have started already. The best time to buy is now while home prices are low and interest rates are historically low. In a year you are going to kick yourself if you don't jump to buy now. Add to this the first time $8,000 tax credit and the picture gets even rosier. What will happen to home prices? My best is on home prices rising. They are already doing so here. If you want to beat the inflation curve, call me. I'm sure together ...

The total number of U.S. workers claiming state unemployment benefits were down significantly at the start of June by their largest amount since November 2001. Claims broke a 21-straight increase. New jobless claims rose a bit. The May index of leading indicators showed more signs that the U.S. economy is moving in the right direction-UP! Great news for everyone!

  1. Decide that the longer your home sits on the market, the more it is worth. Go ahead-raise the price!2. Be sure and tell ALL prospective buyers or other agents why you are selling. Be sure and tell them how desperate you are, how you are holding two mortgages and that your marriage is breaking up because your home has been on the market for a year and your husband blames you!3. Be sure and listen to your co-workers, your neighbors, your family who live in NY or DC to set a price on your home. Your agent knows nothing and  no information they could provide is better than the people listed above.4. Be sure and use your tax appraisal to set a price, after all, a tax appraiser who has never been inside your home surely knows more than your agent who has comps and sees competing homes e...

So the very next day he can dig for the chipmunks that taunt him! Ten minutes in the yard, an hour in the tub, and he's still orange.     If your dog needs grooming, I highly recommend the excellent services of Camp Bow Wow in Forest, VA. These folks love animals and they also offer boarding, short and long term at reasonable rates. Duncan loves to visit and he always comes home with a new bandana and a little treat. Located on Route 221 (halfway to Bedford). For more information, contact:   Camp Bow Wow Route 221 Forest, VA 24551 434-525-5672

Why is now the time to buy? Here are the details for first time buyers who buy this year, 2009. Why is now the time to buy? There are signs of a recovery happening This a tax credit, NOT, a deduction. You will receive a direct reduction in taxes owed of 10% of the purchase price.  Prices are at their lowest levels but are NOT anticipated to stay that wayCall me before you miss the boat and start kicking yourself. Now is the time to buy at the low!
