We stayed at Lost Pines in Bastrop recently for a fall break with family. I love autumn, the nights are cooler and there is some change in color (certainly nothing like my days of living in upstate N.Y. as a child). These fall flowers stood tall and welcoming as we entered the lodge. It reminded me of a quote from Henry Ward Beecher I read from the Star Papers, A discourse of Flowers:“Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock.”
