Death was a part of every day life during the 19th century.  With a life expectancy of 42 years old, and 3 out of every 20 infants dying before their first birthday, death was a real possibility during the Victorian era.  Mourning the dead during this period was a true art.  Some of the customs might seem macabre to us today and included watching the dead until the actual burial.  But, the rules of mourning were very strict and etiquette had to be followed by the surviving family members or else face social ostracism. I absolutely loved having babies and was so blessed to be able to stay home with my infants while they were young.  However, I also remember this could be a stressful time & how helpful it was to talk with other new moms.  Lack of funds can also make finding fun things to do while raising small children a real challenge.  That’s why I was so excited to hear about “Strollercoasters!”   Strollercoasters is a group of parents and caregivers that meet every Thursday at 9am at different points along the Murfreesboro Stones River Greenway.  The group meets and then walks together with strollers and children from birth to age 5.  Afterwards, the group allows the older children to play together at one of the playgrounds on the Greenway.  What a great way for parents and kids to get in some heal... 09/15/2011
