Dorothy Elizabeth Blackman was born in California back in 1903. She attended the Bennett School for Girls in Millbrook, New York, a school in Lausanne, Switzerland and at the Sorbonne. She was an actress and had a role in Green Grow the Lilacs. She also performed in several Charlie Chan films.In 1937, she moved to Paris with her future husband Jacques Leyton. In France she produced and interviewed people on programs for Radio Mondial. She also was the Voice of America denouncing the Nazi regime. In 1942, she was arrested by the Nazis, but with the help of French doctors she escaped.
