Peace Passers is an organization that collects soccer items for redistribution to groups or communities that have been identified as not having access to soccer gear without these donations.   This is a global effort that is completed through collaborations with mission teams, sports ministries and other global non-profits. They accept soccer balls, jerseys, shorts, cleats and socks which can be donated right to Peace Passers.  They then match the donations up with the identified groups or communities.  You may also organize a collection drive within your own soccer team or community to be sent to Peace Passers.  They accept equipment from everywhere in the United States and if you would like to make a financial donation instead of equipment that is greatly appreciated as well.  To date...

Every year millions of cell phones are discarded and discarded improperly.  At Flipswap they will give you cash for every phone you turn in.   Not only will they recycle the phone and find a new home for it, but for every phone recycled they will plant a tree.   Over 400,000 trees have been planted so far.  This means over 200 tons of cell phones have been saved from being dumped into landfills. Another option is donating your cell phone for someone in the military.  Operation Gratitude sends care packages to U.S. troops overseas.  GRC Wireless Recycling will contribute up to $30 to Operation Gratitude for every donated phone.  Our military is deployed in hostile and remote locations - Operation Gratitude with their packages is lifting morale and bringing smiles to soldier's faces every...

This weekend Leah and I headed off to the Renaissance Faire kind of last minute.  Barbara had wanted to join us but since the weather had kept interfering and we kept putting it off unfortunately she wasn't able to make it today.  The weather didn't look that great but we figured what the heck - we would have fun no matter what.  It didn't rain thank goodness but wow was it hot! What a great time we had!  We saw tons of people (not employees) dressed in the garb of the Renaissance era.  I started to realize after awhile that we were in the minority since we were not dressed up.  Later when we were leaving we realized there was a costume contest going on, hence all the costumes, even children.  We saw a jousting show, knife throwing act, a comedy act, the wedding of Robin Hood and Maid M...

Yesterday I posted some pictures I had been given of some of the flooding around here.  Today many of the roads are still closed, most of the people I talk to still have no power and many of the rivers have not crested quite yet which will lead to even more flooding.  Then I look down at the purring I hear at my feet and think of the tiny baby I rescued three weeks ago yesterday who is no longer quite so tiny.  The one now named Max who has more than doubled in size now that he has something to eat and I am so grateful that he didn't spend his time in that storm alone and OUTSIDE.  Would he have survived?  Probably not.  So that 3 hours of struggling around in the woods turned out to have saved his life probably more than once and was meant to be.   Max, my little troublemaker! I wrote a post a couple weeks back about Schlage Wireless Locks and was contacted by someone from the company.  They let me know about a contest the company was running on Twitter so of course I was off and running to enter.  (and enter and enter and enter!)  At some point after the contest was over I got an email that I was one of the winners of one of the Wireless Keypad locks they were giving away.   Woot Woot!  Well today my package finally came and what a bright spot after Hurricane Irene.  So to Laura and everyone at Schlage Locks I thank you and can't wait to pick a spot door for my new Smart Lock!!

I had the great pleasure of attending The Renaissance Faire this week as part of an event with my local Chamber.   Now, as most know this is an event held in Sterling Forest for the past 35 years.  It draws hundreds of thousands of people from all over.  I have been maybe one other time other than this week.  What a night it was! I was pleasantly surprised to find that something I thought might be a little boring for me was FAR from it! The actors were nothing less than spectacular.  Jugglers, Magicians, Musicians, Townspeople and more who never once broke character.  During their displays we were all riveted and wanted more.  I have tickets to return for a full day and can't wait to go back.  I am looking forward to the Jousting - they now have a female Jouster among the group and to s...

I love to see the moon in any size, shape or color.  This was a couple months ago one night when I was driving home and just happened to have my camera with me.  I pulled over and snapped a few shots where I could see the moon through the trees.  It was the type of moon you just couldn't stop looking at.  Unfortunately for some when the moon looks like this it usually means a long night at work.          :-)           Enjoy!  Photos by Debra Walsh, Copyright © 2011 Debra Walsh.
