In June 2012 a land deal was finalized for a 12.5 acre property located at the corner of Cary Parkway and Tryon Rd.  Plans are to build a 205 unit apartment complex.  Lochmere residents voiced concern over the project, but it has been approved and will be constructed. On the positive side, small business owners in the Lowes shopping center may see a benefit from an increase in traffic in the area.  Many business and restaurants in the shopping center have struggled, especially with the opening of Waverly Place just down the road.
