After spending a day playing in the water at your lakefront property, or antiquing in the Lakes Regions of Maine, a relaxed evening enjoying a live, professional show at a quaint theatre will provide the perfect ending. Search for lakefront properties in the Sanford Lakes Region One of those quintessential theatres is Hackmatack Playhouse. Hackmatack Playhouse is a unique, rustic barn theatre located on the Guptill family homestead at 538 School Street in Berwick. S. Carleton Guptill founded Hackmatack in 1972 in the former cow barn because he envisioned a summer stock theatre that would showcase the talents of professionals and local actors. The barn is filled with years and years of family history. The family has farmed the land since the 1600s when the first Guptills came to New Engl...

As many of you in our Berwicks area community may know, Jeff Chandler, a Berwick resident his whole life was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Jeff is married to Gina (Valenzuela), and has a three year old son Landon. The community has come together to host this penny sale to benefit the Chandler's. It will be held at the Middle School Cafeteria on Cranberry Meadow Road in Berwick (the old high school). It will begin at 10 a.m. and the drawings begin at 3 p.m.. There will be lots of items to choose from and it has been confirmed that the game ball from the Noble High School Football Championship will be there! Also some of Jeff's football coaches from that team have agreed to be there. Coach Suttie (now at Bonney Eagle), Coach Bickford (Head Coach at Oxford Hills) and Coach ...

I always love a little boost to start my week, so I thought I would share some of the good stuff! As one of my old football coaches always used to say "What a great day to be alive!" "Private victories precede public victories. You can't invert that process any more than you can harvest a crop before you plant it." Stephen Covey "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18 "When inspiration does not come to me, I go halfway to meet it." There is an upcoming blood drive in Berwick. It is going to be held this Saturday, November 29th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Berwick Town Hall. In this season of thanks, why not give a litte back! For those of you who have never given blood before, it is pretty painless, and only takes about an hour. I've given blood almost 20 times over the past ten years (I had to take a year off after a trip to Mexico left me ineligible) and I really look forward to it. It feels like a pinch when the needle goes in, and then you don't feel anything else. I promise! Questions? Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.To make an appointment to donate at a blood drive go to www.givelife.org

Berwick, Maine is a small town on the Maine/New Hampshire border of 6,353 resident according to the 2000 Census. During the first quarter of 2008 there were 7 home sales. There were no sales in January but the average days on market are currently around 130 and the average sale price is $131,819. This number is low due to the fact that January saw no home sales. During the same time period in 2007 there were 14 homes sold at an average price of $180,247 and it took 119 days on average. With the snow we have been seeing over this winter, I am surprised that anyone braved the elements to look at houses. There are currently 68 homes for sale and they range in price from $109,900 to $625,000. And there are 5 homes currently pending sale. We will have to watch through the second quarter of 2...

Berwick Maine was first known as Newichawannock, an Abenaki Indian name. There is evidence of settlement here as early as 1624 and was finally settled in 1631. The town was incorporated on June 9, 1713 by the Massachusetts General Court. Berwick is the 9th oldest town in Maine. Named after a town called Berwick-on-Tweed in Dorsetshire, England. Berwick suffered many Indian raids before becoming established.Berwick is located just over the New Hampshire border from Somersworth New Hampshire. North Berwick and South Berwick were originally part of the town. South Berwick became was set off in 1814 and North Berwick in 1831. The 2000 Census shows 6,353 residents living on 42 square miles. Berwick is the home of Maine's first school house built in 1719. The Salmon Falls River runs through B...

First settled in 1631, Berwick Maine was originally part of Kittery.  During King Williams war in 1690-1691, the village of Berwick was burned and abandoned, not to be resetteled again until 1703.  In 1713, Berwick was incorporated as a town.  Modern day Berwick is not as large as it once was, now that North Berwick, and South Berwick has seperated from it.Still a small town feel, a "border-town", Berwick has approximately 7000 residents.  Berwick is called a border town because of it's close proximity to New Hampshire.  A great commuter friendly location, Berwick is in the South East corner of Maine and is only a quick 35 minute drive North to Portland Maine, and a short 20 minute drive to Portsmouth New Hampshire. For more information on Berwick Maine, or the communities that surround ...
