The Wisp Resort has been making snow this week, so there is still time to come to Deep Creek Lake and enjoy this beautiful resort community.  There is not enough snow for Dog Sledding this weekend but you can certainly ski, snow board and have fun at the tubing park! My real estate partner, Sam Housley and myself have decided that Warm The Children will be one of our causes to support.  I grew up in a Foster Home and with over 350 Brothers and Sisters, I personally know how important there programs are. As we head into Spring this is a great time to donate those coats that you know your kids will out grow before our next Winter. When you are in the Deep Creek Lake area, drop by our Long and Foster Office, on Garrett Highway and we will gladly accept your donations and get them to Warm the Children. Warm the Children For the past 11 years this small, rural community in Garrett County, Maryland has banded together to help children in need by providing warm clothing.  100% of all donations go to this effort, no administrative fees, no "paid" volunteers...

Our Deep Creek Lake real estate market is certainly a buyer's market.  However, we do not have the amount foreclosures or short sales around the lake and mountain as many other areas do. I think that is because we are primarily a second home market and many of our sellers don't need to sell. They have the luxury of trying to get their asking price or waiting out the market. With all that said there are still some excellent deals and with interest rates low, it is a great time to get into the Deep Creek Lake Real Estate Market.  Sam and I have had several investors just this past month alone take advantage of some wonderful opportunities and buy some properties. Why wait till the market gets great and then you have to compete for homes, for more money and for a higher interest rate. If ...

As much as I love Silver Tree Suites I also love Will-O-The-Wisp.  It is an older complex but all the units are on the water.  Each unit is privately owned and most all are in the rental market. I used to own one of these and we totally renovated it.  It is unit 709H. Some of these units are also being offered for sale. If you would like to know more about this Condo Hotel, give me a call or email me, as I am never too busy to talk with you. Here is some more information.   On the shore of Deep Creek Lake... If you are in the Deep Creek Lake area on March 14th you need to mark your calendars to attend the Deep Creek Lions Las Vegas Night.  It will be held at the Santé Fe Grill in McHenry from 7 PM to 11 PM. Try your luck at Black Jack, Poker or on a spin of the wheel. Proceeds go to support the Blind Skier Program at the Wisp Resort. This year my husband and I are going to eat dinner at Santé Fe Grill and then gamble.  They have a nice menu selection and I am going to recommend their 3 Enchilada Appetizers!

Coming to Deep Creek Lake and taking time to enjoy all the activities that the area has to offer has its rewards. But there is also time out to catch up on some private time and each other.  Fireside Deli and Wine Shop is a place where you can do just that!  Every Saturday from 12-4 you can taste some wine from small vintners around the world. The shop offers an extensive selcetion of fine wine. Of course there is some great gourmet food and gifts as well. It could be nice to have a picnic basket packed by the friendly staff and head to one of our beautiful parks around the area. Either way after a few classes life could be good!

If you have not attended the Cardboard Box Derby at Wisp Resort, you can do that on March 21st, at the Bear Claw Tubing park.  It is loads of laughs and fun!  This event reminds me of the Whitewater Pumkin Race but instead of pumpkins these are real people, trying to beat each other in make shift cardboard somethings! In the past Long and Foster has played an active part in this reace and this year is no exception.  This event is sponsered by the Deep Creek Lions Club and part of Wisp's Beachin Weekend. Last week I was driving home after an ok work day. Even though my day had not been the best I was all excited about the nice day we were having at Deep Creek Lake.  We had some fresh snow on the ground and the sun was shining. The sun made the snow glisten and the air smelled so clean! It made me walk a little faster and my energy started to increase.  I decided to stop and get gas. There were several people at Slope Side so I decided to go inside and say hello.  We started talking and I got engrossed in conversation. I got a coke and headed to my car.  My music came on (Mama Mia) and I thought this is an end to a really nice day. I turn 60 this year and I know it must be hard to picture an overweight 60 year old woman bopping to music, but I do!   As I was pulling away from the gas tan...

My husband is a city boy and he has loved living in Garrett County. He is a vegetarian and loves nature and all it has to offer.  Actually my daughter is a vegetarian as well. Not me, but I am finding it hard these days to eat venison (deer)!  He loves feeding these guys and of course many have names.  They continue to be somewhat wild which is a good thing, but they have developed trust to a degree.  Not to worry, there is no hunting allowed on the mountain!!
