Is buying a West Lafayette home for sale a hedge against inflation?   Richard Weisser has written a featured post "Buying a house now could be the best hedge against inflation. . .EVER!"that makes a  solid case for consumers buying a home because of the low home prices and the incredibly low interest rates. NOT SO FAST!!!  I do agree with Richard that in most markets it is a great time to buy a house, and why wouldn't you want to get a FIXED RATE loan and lock it in for the next 30 years as a possible hedge against inflation? microburst = MACRO DAMAGE It was almost a week ago that West Lafayette experienced a microburst  from  a  storm  literally out of nowhere that led to MACRO damage in the city.  Wind speeds were clocked at over 80 mph and damage was sudden and swift to structures and trees. The West Lafayette High School softball field visitors dugout was absolutely flattened, and its concrete blocks scattered like Leggo blocks.  (pictured to the left) Entire backyard fences with 6 x 6 inch posts were flattened with the posts snapped at the bottom like matchsticks. RUSSIAN SPIES IN THE UNITED STATES??? There seemed to be some AR interest in the Russian spy ring story and that two of the spies had active real estate businesses.   West Lafayette High School ended a perfect season with a 15-0 record by winning the Class 3A Indiana High School state football championship.  The West Lafayette "Red Devils" defeated Evansville Memorial 24-10 to win their second IHSAA state football championship. Red Devil quarterback Daniel Wodicka won the prestigious Phil Eskew Mental Attitude award, which is based on leadership, scholarship, and community service.  Wodicka was also very active on the field intercepting a pass and recovering a fumble on defense, and he threw one touchdown pass and rushed for over 100 yards on offense. As a business or just running as fast as you can hoping that it is working?  I hope that your answer isn't the latter! As a trainer and coach for agents, too many times I discover that they know it is a business , try to set it up to run like one, but never quite get it.  You can't build a beautiful well built home without a blueprint so what makes you think that you can build a successful real estate career without one? On July 30th President Bush signed into law a bill that is designed to assist the housing market in its recovery from the issues that have plagued it for the past two years. The two biggest ramifications of this bill to consumers are the $7500 tax credit to first-time homebuyers and the elimination of down payment assistance as provided by not for profit organizations.  The tax credit is retroactive to April 8, 2008.  It provides up to $7500 in tax credits for any consumer who hasn't owned a home in the past three years or who purchases a home between April 8, 2008 and July of 2009.  This is an excellent opportunity for purchasers to invest in a home with extra benefits for doing so.
