We all try our best to make a transaction easy for our clients.  Such was the case with M & G as they sought my assistance to buy their first home.  It was not without some hurdles that needed to be overcome, but once that was completed, the rest flowed smoothly. They closed on their home in Mid January, 2017 and recently sent me a thank you, part of which I share here. When it comes to buy a house, there is no better person that can help you find your dream home, regardless if you are educated on the real estate market or you are a person like me, that initially knows NOTHING (and I mean, NOTHING !) about it.  Ed will patiently educate and guide you through the whole  process, answer all your questions, alleviate all your worries, provide you with everything you need (mortgage company, l...

Our Love of Country is Often Expressed in Words We had a significant week last week as the 45th President of the United States was sworn into office. Only time will tell how memorable and positive this will be for us. Among the groups invited to perform at the festivities was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and they sang America the Beautiful, a song that has been sung my many famous artists over the years, as well as had lines quoted by many other famous dignitaries as they land on our shores for their first visit. I had read a post by an ActiveRain member yesterday that I respect and follow faithfully, Wanda Kubat-Nerdin. She wrote about God Bless America, another wonderful song that speaks to the heart of so many of us. In my mind, I read America the Beautiful and did not give her post t...

If You are Selling Your Prospect CT Home in 2017, Now is the Time to PrepareFor Prospect CT Home owners that are looking to sell their home in 2017, it is essential to make the home as attractive as possible and to ensure that it gets its best exposure. While it is still too cold to do anything outside, the inside of the home can be addressed so as to make it ready for a spring market.Homeowners must be mindful to not do too much in the way of repairs as the market in Prospect CT has not yet taken a turn to a sellers advantage. Sellers thinking of selling soon will probably want to get as much of their investment back when they sell the home. But when it comes to payback value of home improvements, some are definitely more profitable than others. As a general rule, kitchen and bathroom p...

Weltanschauung: The guiding principles and philosophy of the ActiveRain PlatformIn a structured society, there is a need for guidelines or laws to maintain order and stability. For countries, they would be charters or as in our country, a Constitution.  For the blog platform we enjoy, the guidelines are contained in a format called the Weltanschauung. Like the amendments to our Constitution, the Weltanschauung has 10 organizational amendments, all of which form the parts of the whole.Point #2 of these reads as follows:  We believe that real estate professionals will thrive if they demonstrate their local market expertise. With ever greater access to listings, local knowledge is now the key differentiator. For many, it is understood that real estate is local. By having a strong grasp of t...

Christmas is a magical time of year and for as long as I can remember the anticipation of the running to the Christmas Tree early in the morning was special and seemed to take longer each year.I do remember one Christmas when my day had a sour ending and made it difficult for me to sit comfortably for a while.I had an older brother and as is sometimes the case, sibling rivalry can get out of hand.  Each year when it came time for presents, he seemed to get something that was age appropriate for him, but just in my heart should have been mine.  Such was the case one year when we got to the living room, and there next to the tree was a brand new 20" Schwinn, with no training wheels. This was well before the Christmas Story, so I would have to say it was my equivalent of that Red Rider BB ...

With Christmas being a week away it might be too late to determine naughty or nice in the eyes of some.  We all have the hope that we would be considered nice, but it may have been just a little bit of a lapse in a statement or in the mind of a customer or client that would push us over into the naughty category. If we start out with good intentions each day and carry that forward, we should be in the nice side of the ledger.  Doing our best to be informative and knowledgeable is the goal yet we just may find that one client that is difficult to satisfy and it takes just a negative action on their part to put us into the naughty side.  I know I have had that happen to me and the client felt thoroughly justified even though all the negatives came from them not thinking they got all they t...

No dreaming is necessary for a White Christmas here in Prospect CT based on the white stuff that is coating the ground a week before the big day.We had almost 6 inches of a coating before it stopped but with temps below freezing it isn't going anyplace any time soon. At the very least I know I don't need anything from the shed until the weather gets warmer. It is supposed to get warmer tomorrow, Sunday with a chance of rain which will only make this snow a much bigger problem with the slush and then the heavy ice after. We May Still Have A White Christmas in Prospect CT

I first need to state that we go to church services on Saturday evening so as to allow me to enjoy my Sunday morning pleasure. (My golf game).  As it is early December and the outside temperature this morning was 16F I am pretty much done with golf in Connecticut for the season.A Sunday morning post by Gabe Sanders  hit home and whenever the situation presents itself I get a little smirk. Our Church was in the period of re-electing it's advisory board.  On this particular morning, it was raining very hard and I opted to not play the game and go to church with my wife.  There were a few strange looks from the Sunday morning crowd as we walked into church together, especially as I was wearing a casual (golf) shirt. After the services were over, our priest asked all to remain so that they c...

Preparing to Enjoy the Christmas Season in Prospect CTChristmas is a big time in our family. It always has been and will carry forward for years to come. It is so much a part of our year end that as our grandson came into the house on black Friday he ran into the great room looking to see our Christmas tree up and ready for Santa. That day there was a little bit of disappointment as the tree was still stored away from the previous year. Yes, it's artificial but we put up a 10 foot tree and they are tough to get fresh cut each year, we have been through that.So with the tree up, all the lights brightly shining off the ornaments, we anticipate the arrival of that special man in the red suit. We assist him a little with a pre-Christmas luncheon for family and friends and especially those w...

Showing The Features to a Homes AdvantageWe all strive to make our listings just stand out and offer the best features to make that home stand out from the rest. Such was the case with a ranch style home I listed a few years back.  From the street it was not an overly exciting home especially amongst the much larger homes in the neighborhood.A modest home the owners had taken meticulous care of it over the years and had made some improvements that one would need to enter to appreciate.  A great room ahd been added as well as an inground pool.  The large lot was also an ideal play area for the family. The step down to the added family area with the sliders opening out to the pool gave the home a resort style feeling. From the center of the large lot, the back of the house and pool had an i...

Veteran’s Day   November 11, 2016  A Day of RemembranceToday, in the United States, is Veteran’s Day. It’s a day to remember all Veteran’s that have served their country in a time of war. Originally it was known as Armistice Day, which was the day the articles ending World War I were signed, at the 11th hour of the 11 Day of the 11 month. Many people that still remember this will pause at 11:00 AM today to remember all veteran’s living or deceased that fought for their country. I will make the time as will, not only for all Veterans but also for an uncle of, mine that was born on 11/11/11 and also served our country proudly as a member of the 4th Armored Div in World War II. He was with General Patton through the European campaign and survived the Battle of the Bulge.  He would have bee...

Chasing Open Houses In Central Connecticut is Not The Best Way To Find a HomeI was called by a prospective buyer for information on one of my listings. They asked a bunch of questions that showed an interest. I asked them if they had agent representation and they gave a very tempered explanation as to why they did not have an agent.  I then asked how long they had been seeking a home, which turned out to be almost a year. They wanted to know when I was going to have an Open House on that home, and I let them know that the sellers did not want that type of marketing. They have been looking at homes online and were active at open houses, but were reluctant to commit to an agent as they did not want to be forced into a home purchase. This surely limited their opportunities to see homes as n...

We Put Out The Display Now Bring On the Ghouls and Goblins Halloween means different things to different people. For some it is a chance to be a kid again and spend some time getting dressed up and offer treats to the little ones that come to the doors and maybe even put a little scare into them as well as a treat.Others see it as something that is an annoyance and sit huddled down in the darkness hoping they'll pass on quickly with no damage to the house. We live on a small cul-de-sac and the little ones are not very little anymore. We may get 3 or 4 kids and that will be the end of it. We are too far away from the main stream to get kids crossing busy roads to get to us.  Regardless, we still put out a few Halloween decorations, need a good witch as well as a black cat. The colors on t...
