Charles DeForest was born in Manhattan, New York back in 1823. He worked for Edward Anthony in 1843, where he learned the art of daguerreotype form Jeremiah Gurney, an employee of Anthony.He sailed to Ciudad Bolivar, Columbia where he enjoyed success until returning sometime in the 1850’s. in 1853, he moved to Paris where he became the first photographer to create life-sized portraits using the daguerreotype. In the 1860’s he had a studio on Broadway where he was noted for creating photographs the size of a visiting card.
