Take your pick from the seven deadly sins:
Pride. Envy. Wrath, Gluttony and Lust. Sloth and Greed.
A mortal or deadly sin is believed to destroy the life of grace and charity within a person.

Agents misrepresentation, lying and dishonesty is prevalent.
No one turns them in or if they do, the punishment is a slap on the wrist and a measly fine equivalent to lunch at a nice restaurant.
Until there are real consequences, this will continue...

Not that much of it happens outside of the imagination of some instructors.

You can not be responsible for others, only for your own words and actions. The professional reputation is all you get in this business.

I think most is not intentional....pure ignorance.....and no common sense!!!

Anonymous,
Please provide a link to your source so your question can be addressed responsibly.
For all we know you are using Yelp for your online real estate course, but it would be beneficial to let us know, allowing us to be responsible regarding your 'Why?"

Well, it may be true of every business. We read about Real Estate - so we think it's only here....

It isn't any greater than in rest of the world and probably a lot less. It is a sign of the times.

Where have you been reading and what do you consider misrepresentation? Our industry is similar to many other industries with the same pitfalls. Buyer beware and it pays in the long term to work with a qualified, experiences professional agent.

Abundance of mispresentation start with realtors who are not licensed and do not post their picture and license # on website.

I'm amazed at the work that we do as agents to minimize this. If they did as good a job in other businesses and government, it would probably be a great country.

Because so many agents are undercapitalized and literally in survival mode with each deal. So they'll do or say things that are not in anyone's best interest to keep the wolf from the door.
My other theory is that so many agents are so insecure and arrogant that they'll do or say anything to be good enough or impress [God knows who] LOL!

Lack of education. Many times the real estate schools teach to pass the test, not to sell real estate.

Misrepresentation is a serious accusation against an agent. My state real estate board publishes violations in their newletter. There are some cases, but I wouldn't call it an abundance. Misrepresentation can be an ethics issue, but it is also a violation of the real estate law.
