It drives me crazy when people put that extra "a" in there.  I've only corrected a person once that I recall and that's when the person had done something to annoy me in a big way.  I think I said something like: And don't ever pronounce realtor that way again.

Yes, absolutely! Even our MLS Association Executive tells people not to let me hear them pronounce it that way.  I will call them out every time.  I don't care who they are...

People on our team must use the word correctly, we have no control over the rest of the world though.

We own the word and should know how it is pronounced.  Many in our industry pronounce it incorrectly and even some officials.  Correcting someone is embarrassing to both parties.  I would only do so if it were someone close enough to make it comfortable.

REAL-LA-TOR.....

Yes I have been called a real-la-tor and late for dinner.
No, I don't correct the person if I intend to help them with their real estate needs or alleviate my hunger.

The temptation to judge others as IGNORANT regarding those things for which those in the business are intimate is not a reflection of the nature of the citizen but of the pettiness of the agent embracing such smallness.

Simply modeling correct pronunciation is all that is needed. "As your REALTOR I will keep you informed about new houses on the market in your selected communities." Such a simple solution...but the first thing grabbed is 'ignorant citizen.' Shameful.

Yes, but I don't care and don't correct people. Many foreigners have a hard enough time pronouncing English, and I'm sure that I mispronounce some words.

Ginger Harper Sure I hear it all the time. I even hear it on the TV shows. Since the general public thinks real estate agent is synonymous with the term realtor, I don say any anything even when they mispronounce it.

Some misuse the word some misuse the trademark symbol.  I don't correct people.  Never know who your next client might be.

The NAR hasn't corrected the public in its proper use during the past century. Copyrights are forever while trademarks can easily come and go. The word remains REALTOR but it's luster has faded both internally and externally through misuse. Worse yet is when a REALTOR calls you a real-a-tor, and they're paying for it.

Good morning Ginger. When I hear it said that way I correct them, even though I am not a Realtor, but used to be. The other one is R E A L I T O R.

Make it a great weekend!

I would not correct them. My names is constantly misspelled and twisted, so, I'm very tolerant with people who like to pronounce words and names in a certain way. The most important what is comming from those relationships.

I know agents who pronounce it like that. It's not worth the energy to correct them.
