In theory, there is a listing section. From the topics drop down, when writing a post, you can select 'listings'.
But that doesn't separate things out from the main blog roll. I think we need to get much better at segmenting content. I agree with the premise of what you are asking here.
I think that when someone first goes to the 'blog home', they shouldn't see a deluge of listings. We would never stop people from sharing listings, but that content should be moved away from being front and center and we should attempt to bring more unique content to the front. There are many many many sites that do way more with listings, and do it much better. We have never purported to be a good place for a consumer to come and find listings. Nor do we intend to be. Let Z or T or R.C or any of your websites be that place. ActiveRain was always intended to be a place that someone could get great content about a local community, or about a real estate transaction, or about the industry.
We have our work cut out for us to make sense of the 1o00 blog posts that hit the site daily. I've always been dismayed at how the main blog roll acts.

An Ambassador checking in here David Barr I like seeing the different listings for all the many areas where it Rains! I am interested in the architecture, the different pricing, how the property is described . . . so much to learn about other areas. I also like the attention my own listings receive as AR is not just for Realtors, but for the public at large. Many of my Buyers are from outside of Canada and have come to me by way of my blog.
As I am forever saying, I like to keep my head down and eyes on my own paper. I will concentrate on my own blog and the business it generates and allow everyone else to do the same.

I post a variety of things on my blog. I post a mix of community posts, personal posts and professional opinion/real estate/experience posts. The main purpose of blogging here is to attract new business.....and I've had quite a few clients find me from here.
One of the most popular posts that nd brought me business is a listing post of a Mid Century Modem home I had listed in Anaheim. I did check the "is this a listing" box when I posted...but it still shows up in the blog roll and to those who follow my blog.
I think that AR can be whatever we want to make it for ourselves. By searching under the various subjects and in groups...you can find whatever information you're most interested in reading.

David. The question was a valid one on its own.
Why the need to take a potshot at the ambassadors?

David ....
I don't like my blog messed up with listings. I agree that a listing is not a true blog, it's ad copy. With that being said a lot of agents like to post ads and if that's what they want to do more power to them.

Hi David...When considering a fellow Rainer to refer someone to it is helpful to see what type of marketing they do. What they post on Active Rain for listings gives you some insight into how much care and attention they give to their clients. I think that is helpful. It is another marketing tool for those that want to use it.
Also, the more places our sellers can see their properties being marketed the happier they are. You never know what might bring a buyer.

I've been a member since 2008, and have had significant business come to me directly from my posts, and referrals from other AR members. The last couple years, with the ownership changes and my own busy business, I've neglected posting. About a year ago I started posting listings for the first time ever, through Brivity, because it is so darn easy and makes my clients happy. Guess what, I get calls from
those listing posts! I also get calls regularly from my old content rich posts! I love seeing the listings from other parts of the country, how other agents do things. There is value in that for me. Because I am posting listings, that doesn't mean I don't embrace change for the better. I am constantly changing, trying to improve, always. And I am succeeding! Right now I am on a mission to time block for blogging and get back at it in full force. I will still post my listings through Brivity too. Since Ben Kinney owns both Brivity and AR, I can't imagine that if the listing posts are detrimental in any way to AR, that capability would continue.

I've never used Craigslist for real estate, but I don't think blogs would be well received there.....

There is already a listing section. Why would you expect anyone to boycott your question?

Good Thursday morning David. I have seen a lot of real estate ads on craigslist. I do not know how well they work.

There will be many changes coming and making it more real estate topic centric with a listing category/localisms likely to be one of them. The webinar talked about 4 channels or categories.
