Yes I always check the bill. There is one particular place that adds more on as a tip than what I've given, 15%. I have actually called the manager before and complained. They claimed it was some type of temporary charge. Yeah right.....

It happens so often I wonder if it can always be in error? I have found it happens more when dining out with my husband as people often mistakenly take him for a tourist and don't expect him to be a repeat customer.

Ron usually does, and rarely have we seen a mistake. The biggest one is when we got someone else's bill who was entertaining 4 people...and it was just the two of us. A

In my experience, I'm overcharged at a restauraunt more than any other retail business. The typical overcharge is being charged for something I didn't order or receive- such as being double billed.

It's important to check your credit/debit card statement too. We were charged for dinner on a Saturday night and then the same charge showed up on the following Monday. Reported to our bank and it was corrected. Haven't been back to that restaurant.

Joe Petrowsky Yes, I do always check. I once got a bill for another table. I joked with the server I was going to pay it because it was less than my bill. Not a big deal, but it pays to check it.

ALL THE TIME, as mistakes and wrong checks are given. and the error is never for less, always more.

I look at the total, but not each individual item. Maybe I've been leaving money on the table (no pun intended).

I always check. I have seen some errors and some of what I call "intentionals". At one restaurant I used to go to regularly, I would tell the waitress that the senior's discount (clearly indicated on the menu) applied to one party member. It was obvious that the party member was a senior. The waitress, working in an almost empty restaurant during non-prime time, would present the bill without the discount and then I had to tell her again to apply the discount. This happened about 3 or 4 times in a row with the same waitress so I ultimately stopped going.

Yes. I do check the bills at restaurants. I do not recall the biggest error.
Chef Dolores tells me that there are frequent errors on the receipts at grocery stores.

ALWAYS! Errant charges are usually to the restaurants favor and quickly brought to their attention and corrected, however, we found one last week which shorted one of our favorites by almost $50.00. It's often heard that there is NO FREE LUNCH but by letting them know about this we enjoyed a great one upon our next visit!

Yes, I always check the bill. Had one problem with the Royal Hawaiian once, and it took them over a week to fix. I had used a debit card and it takes longer to get the money back in. They ran the charge, something didn't register correctly, they supposedly cancelled it, and then rang it again. Too bad, that was always one of my favorite restaurants.

Good Monday morning Joe. Yes, I do check the bills at a restaurant. I once got charged $15 for a meal that I didn't.
