Why There Won’t Be a Recession That Tanks the Housing Market In ConnecticutThere’s been a lot of recession talk over the past couple of years. And that may leave you worried we’re headed for a repeat of what we saw back in 2008. Here’s a look at the latest expert projections to show you why that isn’t going to happen.  According to Jacob Channel, Senior Economist at LendingTree, the economy’s pretty strong: “At least right now, the fundamentals of the economy, despite some hiccups, are doing pretty good. While things are far from perfect, the economy is probably doing better than people want to give it credit for.” That might be why a recent survey from the Wall Street Journal shows only 39% of economists think there’ll be a recession in the next year. That’s way down from 61% projectin...

Today's Market Data Shows Opportunity For DC Homebuyers New market data was released for Washington DC this morning. Prices are down across the board except for a slight uptick for condos and co-ops, median days on market have increased, and early spring inventory levels are showing some growth.   This should be a prompt to buyers. The market isn't likely to offer much much more opportunity for buyers before the Fed starts cutting rates and DC returns to its former cutthroat seller’s market.   During the month of February in Washington DC: The median sold price for Condo & Coop properties for February was $495,000, representing an increase of 3.4% compared to last month and an increase of 1% from Feb 2023. The average days on market for units sold in February was 54 days, 26% above the...

I know, I know today is March 10, 2024 and we are supposed to "Spring Forward" today 1 hour on our clocks after last November when we were supposed to "Fall Back" 1 hour. Confusing? Yes, for many Americans that show up early or late to work every year when not changing their clocks. Why do we do this? Daylight savings for Farmers? No, it was an energy saving technique back in 1918 at the end of World War 1 that never really worked. There is no reason to do it today. Some states are attempting to initate laws to change. Do you like having an extra hour of daylight during the winter so the sun does not set until after you get home from work? Most people do.Does anyone do it right? YES! In Arizona we do not change our clocks, EVER! Life goes on here, no clock manipulations that cause wonde...

Spring is here, things have accumulated over the winter. Have you put that Christmas tree back where it belongs in the rafters of the garage? I represent taxpayers with tax issues in New Haven, Connecticut as well as all over the country before the IRS, Department of Justice Tax Division and State Departments of Revenue.  The IRS knows there are more than 10 million non-filers and has known who they are for several years now.  Last week the IRS announced the long awaited move against the top 125,000 high-income non-filers is starting. For those who haven't filed their taxes there are a few initial considerations: How many years must they file? Should they just file or should they request Voluntary Disclosure? Compliance with tax regulations goes beyond avoiding penalties; it involves maintaining your filing and payment compliance and working out an arrangement on any back-taxes owed. Submitting tax returns on time is vital—ev...

What To Know About Credit Scores Before Buying a Home In ConnecticutIf you want to buy a home in Connecticut, you should know your credit score is a critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to qualifying for a mortgage. Lenders review your credit to see if you typically make payments on time, pay back debts, and more. Your credit score can also help determine your mortgage rate. An article from US Bank explains: “A credit score isn’t the only deciding factor on your mortgage application, but it’s a significant one. So, when you’re house shopping, it’s important to know where your credit stands and how to use it to get the best mortgage rate possible.” That means your credit score may feel even more important to your homebuying plans right now since mortgage rates are a key factor in a...
