Twas the day after Thanksgiving and all through the house Leftovers were plentiful for me and my spouse The ham on our biscuit the turkey on bread The Yams still delicious and kept us well fed   This day after Thanksgiving should all be for rest There’s Football on TV I’ll crash and I’ll nest Not so fast as she rattled my roost   Christmas is coming and it’s time to reboot She threw open the shutters and looked upon me Saying bring in that Santa, the lights and the tree My eyes must have rolled to the top of my cap Cause I felt a hard strike a pop and a snap Get off the dang sofa and get into the garage There’s boxes in the attic and don't forget Claus   So we turned off the TV and cranked up the tunes The tree was unboxed and brought back to new The wreath and the manger both found ...

Like many people, I have been working out of my home office recently. And after spending so much time in the space I realized it can use a few updates. Now, since I can't run out to buy new furniture and accessories, I decided that the best way to update my office was to work with what I already had on hand. So not only is this a project to keep me busy, but it's also going to make my temporary working environment more enjoyable. 1. PaintPaint is honestly your best friend when it comes to easy updates that make a big impact. My office is tiny and had been painted a gray that was a wee bit too dark for the space itself. To fix that, I simply went to my garage and found a gallon of paint that was an off- white.  Switching to a lighter color brightened up the space and made it feel larger....

One of the first things people relocating to St. Johns, FL from other parts of the country ask me about is the kind of wildlife they can expect to encounter. Many have heard horror stories about humungous bugs, venomous snakes and aggressive alligators. Yes, those types of creatures do live in St. Johns, FL but not in the vast numbers that are rumored and lots of other less angst-inducing reptiles, birds and animals live or migrate here as well. When our family first moved to Florida we were fascinated by the alligators that lived in the pond behind our home. Several of them were a constant presence and we enjoyed hearing their deep, primal bellowing and watching them bask in the sun. We knew to neither feed them nor walk our dog close to them and we lived quite peacefully near them for...

1995 was a tough year for me.  My Grandmother, who I was especially close to passed away in April.  The next month, my neighbor found a little 4-5 week old Siamese Snowshoe kitten in the middle of the street and picked him up so he wouldn't get hit by a car.  When I asked to hold the kitten, she handed him to me and said, "I'm not taking him back.". That's how the story started. Scoozer was a handful as a kitten.  He insisted on things his way...ALWAYS!  I tried to make him an indoor cat, but he would have none of that.  He sprayed until I let him out, even after being neutered.  Once he could go outside, it was fine, he came and went as he pleased through a cat door. I have a real problem with migraines.  When I would have a particularly bad one that put me in bed, Scoozer would wrap h...

Back on July 20, 1969, the first American astronaut walked on the moon. With Neil Armstrong's historic phrase, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," history was made. Our whole family had the flu at that time. I was especially discouraged as my birthday was the day before-and being sick meant no party and no cake. While tentatively snacking on saltine crackers to settle my tummy, I watched Astronaut Armstrong take his pioneering walk on the moon and told myself, "I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing when the first man walked on the moon."What about you? Where Were You When the First Man Walked on the Moon July 20, 1969?

Apps Away...Touch Retouch Yes, I plead guilty to being an apps w____!  But I’ve been spending some quality time with the apps on my iPhone while waiting in line to comment here.  I’ve been doing the Delete or Keep dance with my apps. One app I use often is Touch Retouch.   The app is available on IOS and Android platform and, trust me, it’s easy to use.  While you don’t want to deceive or mislead your viewer, the app allows you to remove phone lines, for example, or perhaps the garbage can that you forgot to remove from the front of the property.  There is a “clone” feature on the app I have yet to master but give me time.  Hope you have fun with it.

Clams are a very nutritious whole food with a host of health benefits. They are a lean source of protein, they are rich in minerals, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids, and have been found to possess cancer-preventing properties. CLAM CHOWDER It only takes 10 minutes to steam littleneck clams, so much tastier than the canned variety -- for this creamy chowder. Potatoes, bacon, shallots, thyme, and white wine add flavor and body to the soup. Check the full recipe here! STEAMED CLAMS AND CORN RECIPE Slice ears of corn into half-inch "coins" so they cook at the same speedy pace as littleneck clams. Shallots, jalapenos, and cilantro flavor the white wine broth. Check the full recipe here! GRILLED CLAMS All you need are five dozen littleneck clams and a hot grill to prepare this fun, casual d...

Monday Motivational...You Can Be TOO Focused The other day we were following a car in the parking lot towards the gas pumps.  The driver was driving at what seemed like a snail’s pace, getting ready to turn towards the gasoline pumps. We’ve all been behind slow drivers but you could see in his car that he was totally focused on one spot. Every single pump was available and looked to be working...there were no cars in front of him but he still seemed to be focused on just one pump.  He was so focused, he failed to see the now growing line of cars behind him, including ours.  What happened next was what you might have expected...all the cars behind the snail driver pulled around him and took up all of the pumps. So...what’s this all mean? We’ve all been told how important FOCUS is when we ...
