Montgomery Among Healthiest Counties  Montgomery County is one of healthiest counties in Maryland and in the United States, according to the annual County Health Rankings (CHR). The 2024 report does not provide a ranking for each county within a state, but does show metrics on how a county’s health outcomes and underlying factors are relative to other counties in their state and with nationwide metrics. The CHR, a collaboration of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, annually compares counties within each state on more than 30 factors that impact health. The factors include social determinants such as education, jobs, housing, exercise and commuting times.“I am proud that we continue to be ranked among the healthiest counties in ...

I love it when we get mentioned in national news when it is a good thing, thank you “CNBC Make it” for listing The Villages as number 4 and the only Florida location for retirement on a limited income.  The article pointed out 30% of Americans have no savings for retirement and another 33% have less than $50,000 saved.  Many of the clients I work with depend on selling the family home some place in the country and using the proceeds to relocate her.  A few clients lately were able to sell their home somewhere else and buy here and have a nice amount left over.  Here are the top five places to retire with limited or no savings: Foley Alabama Mountain Home, Arkansas Hot Springs Village, Arkansas The Villages, Florida 5 Bella Vista, Arkansas From the article: The 100 biggest U.S. cities wi...

Tuesday’s Treasures…More Babies!!! What do I love about Spring? What don’t I love?  Mother Nature is like an orchestra conductor. With one flick of her baton, green leaves appear on trees that stood bare.  A wink from Mom Nature and our fields in Texas are covered with bluebonnets. And finally, Spring means hope and new beginnings. Baby birds, ducks, geese, and squirrels come into the world.  We were at Kickerillo and saw these beautiful Egyptian Geese close to the bank. The only reason we saw them was we noticed a fellow walker taking photos.  Larry and I’ve seen Egyptian geese at the Preserve previously but never the goslings (babies).                                 If you listen to the video you can hear children calling out for the “duckies.” Take the time to appreciate what Mother...

OK just when you think that you have seen it all, my client had a tenant that just left for vacation. The crazy thing, the airline, required her to buy 12 Airline Seats for her Emotional Support Pet. Is this fair you ask? (Photo: Airline seats by Juan_Cajahuaman, Pixabay)Not only that, the Airline would not provide extra packages of snacks. We first became aware of the tenant's Therapy/ Emotional Support Pet when the lease began. Can a Landlord say NO to THIS Therapy Pet and Should they have done so in this instance? This was a shocker! I had just got back from a showing of a Landlord's rental home that was for Sale and the existing tenant had a "Therapy Pet".  This pet made my Buyer client feel very uncomfortable in the close quarters of this modest 3 bedroom 2 bath 1,520 sf home In Ari...

We can all lose ourselves in Facebook, but sometimes it is a place to discover a new bakery. I recently came across the BlackLab Bakery page, isn't that a great name, you want to go just because of the name. I haven't found a really good baker in our area yet. Yes, in West Grove there is a Mexican Bakery which is great for Mexican pastries. But really good baguettes and Miche loaves. No. Well, looking over BlackLab Bakery's Facebook page I noticed their photos and they looked really good. They are generally only open Friday and Saturday, and this weekend, I decided to go and give them a try. Well, the line was almost out the door when I arrived,, and it did trickle out behind me.They had all sorts of loaves, tomato pies, cannoli which they fill as you purchase them, bagels, plain and se...

Since 1878, American presidents and their families have celebrated Easter Monday by hosting an 'egg roll' party on the South Lawn of the White House.  In fact, it is one of the oldest annual events in White House history. Some historians note that First Lady Dolley Madison originally suggested the idea of a public egg roll, while others tell stories of informal egg-rolling parties at the White House dating back to President Abraham Lincoln's administration. The White House South Lawn would never have become home to America’s best-known Easter egg roll if Congress hadn’t first passed a fun-spoiling law that denied local children access to the most popular egg-rolling venue of the 1870s: Capitol Hill.  Andrew Johnson’s family started the trend when the Johnson grandchildren dyed eggs on Ea...

In a world where time is the ultimate currency, the concept of fast-paced living has emerged as a guiding principle reshaping the landscape of real estate. Defined by the harmonious balance between productivity, leisure, and well-being, the pace of living transcends the traditional success metrics to prioritize fulfillment and quality of life. As individuals seek to escape the relentless hustle and bustle of modern life, real estate developers and communities adapt to meet the evolving needs of a society craving equilibrium. This paradigm shift influences the design and functionality of living spaces and fosters a profound reevaluation of our relationship with time, space, and place. At the heart of pace living lies the recognition that time is a finite resource, and how we allocate it p...

April is the beginning of alligator mating season!  April is prime courtship time for alligators with mating beginning in May or June.  Why is that important for you to know that if you live in Florida?  It is estimated there are 1.3 million alligators in Florida and they can get very active and you might find them where you least expect it.  This past weekend a 7’ gator was removed from a residential area of The Villages.  This time of the year a little extra caution should be taken around bodies of water especially if walking a dog.I have lived in Florida for 16 years and have only seen alligators where you expect to see them, close to ponds and lakes, a few on golf courses close to water.  During mating season, they can be spotted where you don’t expect them.  I man hear something at...
