Welcome Back UWSP Students to the 2015-16 School YearWelcome back to the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, school starts this week and the town is buzzing with activity.  I have seen several groups heading down to Belts for a welcome ice cream break with old and new friends, and today many houses had yard parties as people gathered to reacquaint with old friends and meet a few more before the busy life of classes begins. For those who do not have housing secured, we have a few more homes available we just finished cleaning and repairs on.  And if anyone needs a couch or other misc. furniture, I seem to be developing a collection in one of my garages that I would like to get rid of soon.Jack and I took a walk around campus today and took a few pics of the buildings, people and art...

2524 Prairie Nearly Ready  This fine vintage home has been ready for a new roof for a while now, and soon it will have a new emerald green steel roof. The new roof is not the only thing that this fine home is getting this year; other things that are in the works include removal of the back porch, a new coat of paint, and several interior touchups and upgrades. Our current tenant Danielle just became a homeowner and is busy packing so that she and her children can move into their new home over in the Park Ridge area. Soon someone else will be enjoying this 4 bedroom spacious home with ample hardwood floors, a huge double lot, new roof and so much more. Give me a call if you would like to get in line to view this home.

Franciscans Downtown at the 4th of July Parade 2015It was a great day for a parade this weekend and all three branches of the Franciscans were present for the Franciscans Downtown display. I was nominated to drive the car with our signs on it while others including Fr. Placid Stroik ofm, Sally Crane ofs, and Leo Jacoby walked along greeting people and handing out schedules for our July activities. Sister Sandy ssj, Deb Peltier, and Bill and Pat Moronak stayed at the Franciscan House to entertain people who stopped in for a beverage or a treat during the parade which passed right by the store front where we are located. I was impressed at how many children ran out to the street yelling “Mrs Crane” and then gave Sally a hug, apparently they are really missing school already.  I don’t reca...

Stevens Point Mural Series - Kozy Kitchen Home Cooking! This mural is also not one of the city sponsored murals, but it still is very interesting  with a good times type flaire to it. The longest running restaurant in Stevens Point, at the corner of Third and Clark streets, is called “Painting the Town”. Over the years, thousands of "locals" and visitors enjoyed a fine home cooked meal at the Cozy. This mural was painted by local artist Greg Luedtke. Notice the cute girl in this picture, thats my loving wife Sally out for an early morning bike ride.

Home for the Summer, several of them.My friend Debbie Laity asked me to write about my home for the summer and what I like about it.This got me to wondering which home I should write about, Forestry Camp, The Office at our Cadott Tree Farm, or my main home and office in Stevens Point.Forestry camp is a great place to be with plenty of activity and nature coming out of your pores, though the internet is generally lacking and electricity is often a challenge as well. Most of our electricity comes from solar panels and vehicle inverters, and the internet is generally from our cell phone hotspots, which have been lacking ever since ATT took over our phone company last fall. The Cadott office is also nice with plenty of nature everywhere you look and the big picture window by my desk looks out...

Stevens Point Mural Series - McDonald title    I always enjoy going by this Mural, it is not one of the official city sponsored murals and it has a certain historical family business aire to it that is always enjoyable. One bonus to this mural is that the artist painted a scene that could have been of this business as it was in the 1800's. McDonald Title Company, Inc. Riding the Logs Down Wisconsins First Highway, "The Riverman of the Wisconsin River" Mural   Being a great fan of local art, I often enjoy riding my bike through the downtown area of Stevenst Point where many small and large murals are painted depicting our history. This gem is located on the corner of Water and Clark Streets,  in Downtown Stevens Point. The Riverman Mural is a tribute to Stevens Point's strong logging heritage.  Logging was one of the first large industries to build our state and today it still is, though we no longer use river power to move these important resources from the woods to the mills.   This is the first of the  series of murals and wasCompleted in September 2004.                 This is also the first of many murals that I will be featuring in the next few...

Stevens Point Wisconsin, I love this town, and so will you!   I first came to this town over 30 years ago when I started college here.     It was a culture shock for me coming from a rural farm near a small town of 800 people.  At the time it seemed like a much larger metropolis than it seems to be today.     After 6 years of college I grew to love the city of Point and hated to leave to start my career, but everybody has to grow up and leave sometime.   A decade after starting my Forestry Consulting Company in Western Wisconsin, I was looking to expand and what better place than the home of the largest and most prestigious Forestry school in the country, UW Stevens Point, and the place that I had grown to love so much when I was a student there.     So my wife found a new and better te...

Stevens Point Trivia 2015, strange stuff in the neighbor’s yardI had noticed that something was a little different in the neighbor’s yard this weekend, but I am far too busy to take more than a few seconds to think about what strange stuff is in the neighbor’s yard so I didn’t.First I noticed that they seemed to have a new very huge RV in their yard, and then while warming up the car to go to church this morning I noticed something really odd peeking over the fence that goes between our back yard and their side yard.So after church today I hiked around the corner to Rice St to check out this strange object in their front yard and found that they were harboring what seems to be the trophy for the Stevens Point Trivia Contest. My first thought was COOL, not only do we have neighbors who en...

Michael Koziczkowski Park - Stevens Point Wisconsin A friend of mine asked me to share a little information on the parks in Stevens Point a few weeks ago so this week I will be sharing a few of our gems. Stevens Point is a wonderful little city with a wealth of trees and parks, it seems that every time I turn around I discover another nice little park. A while ago I discovered Michael Koziczkowski Park and thought that it might me nice to share a little glimpse of it with you so I took out my phone and recorded a quick little tour for you to enjoy. This is a quiet and often forgotten park hidden away along the McDill pond flowage. Though Michael Koziczkowski park may be hidden away at the south side of town at the south end of Minnesota Ave and Business 51, it is named after a significa...

Rent Prices Rising Again in 2015, Have You Thought About Becoming a Homeowner?  I Can Help. I read another article today from a reliable source at KCM, predicting another year of escalating rental rates through the country. Considering the cost of being a landlord is also rising, I predict that I will also be rising the rates this summer on the homes that I still have by that time. Part of my plan when I started increasing my rental business back in 2008 was to be out of the business within 10 years so now is the time that I will begin divesting in these properties. If becoming a homeowner and putting your rent money into something that will build equity for your future interests you, then I can help. I can help you to find the financing that it takes to buy a home. I can help to prepar...

Habibi's Gyros & Kabob House with my favorite girl. It's always a good day when I can find an opportunity for a date with my lovely wife Sally. Recently we discovered a unique restaurant close to our home in Stevens Point. Habibi’s is an experience of the flavors and atmosphere of the Mediterranean, Including a variety of foods of the Mediterranean region such as Turkey, Greece, and North Africa. We did enjoy the tastes as well as the decor, and we will likely become regular visitors.

Wisconsin River Fall Bike Ride  (part one) Its a beautiful fall day in Stevens Point today and perfect for a ride along the river on the Green Circle Trail. For those who don't have the time, take a look at a video of my friend Jack and I enjoying a ride along the river in Riverside park in the downtown are of Stevens Point. We both enjoyed the exercise, scenery, and solitude of a park during a quiet time in the middle of the week, but Jack especially enjoyed the many ducks.  It’s that time of year when the ducks are getting ready to head south for the winter, with only a few more days or possibly weeks before it starts to ice up around here.
