  The 2007 Madeline Island tourist season appears to be winding down, with most LaPointe businesses discounting their retail inventory and notifying visitors of abbreviated open hours as October progresses. Most Madeline Island restaurants remain open.  The Bell Street Tavern is open daily, from 11 a.m. until closing.  Dinner is available Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings.  Grandpa Tony's Restaurant and The Pub Restaurant both plan to remain open through October 21.  Lotta's Lakeside Cafe will be open through October 27.  The Mission Hill Coffee House opens at 7 a.m. and closes weekdays at 2 p.m., weekends at 5 p.m. The Madeline Island Museum will be open October 19 and 20, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Motion To Go plans to remain open through October 20th.   Power boaters and sail ...

September 30th marks the 153rd Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of 1854, which settled various disputes left from earlier treaties in 1837 and 1842 and established the Bad River, Lac Courte Oreilles, Red Cliff, and Lac du Flambeau reservations.  The treaty was signed at LaPointe, Wisconsin. On September 27th, there was a presentation and panel discussion held at the Madeline Island Museum to open this weekend's celebration, with the topic being "The Contemporary Significance of Madeline Island to the Ojibwe".  There will be an Open House for members of the Ojibwe tribe at the Madeline Island Museum on Saturday, September 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to mark this historic event.  The Open House will include an exhibit provided by the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commissio...

Even though we've reached the end of September, there's still plenty for Madeline Island visitors to enjoy!
