Richmond Beach real estate has always been something of a wonder!  What could be better than a wonderful historical community right on the Puget Sound?  Big views, amazing parks, great schools, and more! Richmond Beach is a neighborhood in the Seattle suburb of Shoreline WA.  I recently had the pleasure of showing a wonderful charming view home right next to the highly acclaimed Richmond Beach branch of the King County Library System.  Not only was it across the street from the library and the beautiful view filled  Richmond Beach Center park, it was also right next to the tennis courts.  I mean, this house had full on views from both levels and was only a few blocks East of the Puget Sound, a few blocks from the historical neighborhood pub, The Cabin, and just a few blocks north of the...

All right. Charles Buell has recently been getting a huge number of points for his blogs that feature guessing contests here at Active Rain. It seems that everyone likes to guess. Me, not being one to fall behind when it is time to make hay, decided that I would create my own guessing contest. Unlike his, where you get a cheapo prize, my contest has no prize whatsoever other than a confirmation that you could probably make it as a detective.  The format of this contest goes back to my days in broadcasting, a take off on a contest where we had a mystery man who recorded clues. He was a real man about town and people had to guess on the air the name of the mystery man from the clues provided. You get it, who was that masked man?Let us move on to today's contest. I want to see if anyone ca...

What's the next step? The CAC determined that "to best ensure future vitality of the community, housing choice and affordability must be expanded." (Comprehensive Housing Strategy, January 2008) Over the last two decades, the regional and national demographics have changed in Shoreline, affecting the current housing market. Although the city has limited control over these trends, they can lessen the effects by allowing a wider range of housing and development choices to our community.   As I discussed in the previous Shoreline housing blog, the Citizens Advisory Committee will be implementing new strategies to solve our many housing problems. One way the city and the CAC is doing this is by initiating community education and outreach programs. This is done to promote an open dialog so t...

Shoreline's Ridgecrest Neighborhood - Ridgecrest in Shoreline is a great neighborhood because of its easy access to I-5 and wonderful amenities all packed into a great walkable Seattle suburb neighborhood.  Multiple parks, a coffee shop, movie theatre, and 7-11 are just a few of the perks, plus great schools! Inspection Day.... I helped a Ridgecrest buyer have an inspection done of a potential property this last week and the sellers were just wonderful in their preparation of the home.  If you are going to be a Ridgecrest seller, then this is the way to go - the house is just lovely and backs to Ridgecrest Park, but the remodel work on it just shines! Here are some of the shots I took at the inspection.  My buyers are very lucky to be buying such a great house in a wonderful neighborho...

Ridgecrest in Shoreline has some nice features.... The Ridgecrest neighborhood in Shoreline Washington has some great features - it is right alongside I-5 between the 14th St Exit and the 175th Street Exit on the East side .  This makes for easy commuting, but this neighborhood is also loaded with extras like the Shoreline Library, Northcrest Park, and also Ridgecrest Park. I recently sold a house in Ridgecrest and was lucky enough to have the pleasure of having a great cup of coffee at this neighborhood cafe:   Cafe Aroma (509 NE 165th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155)  A coffee place and a movie theatre? Looking across the street, I saw The Crest, a tiny local neighborhood movie theatre.  I am so impressed with how walkable this neighborhood is!  I can't imagine having a park (more than on...

Being a soccer nut, each new artificial turf soccer field that replaces the old dirt fields is welcomed with much excitement.  Just a few years ago most of the fields were either grass fields in very poor condition or dirt.  The dirt fields were actually preferred in most cases to the grass fields.  Before these dirt fields there were the nasty old fields of pulverized brick that would routinely make any part of your body that was unfortunate enough to hit it look like pizza.      The latest of these fields at Twin Ponds Park, in Shoreline, Washington, is about to be unveiled.        This field when it was dirt had the particular reputation of being very dusty with sand dunes of dust piling up along the side lines.  If the wind blew when you were playing you could get lost from one...

Shoreline is looking to the future at many issues for this wonderful Seattle suburb - transportation, health access, and moving towards an overall environmentally friendly city way of thinking.  Here are some of the highlights and another reason why this town might be a great place to live: One of the goals for the city of Shoreline, Washington is to "create an environmentally sustainable community" - the city is looking at a tree retention policy (sound like Lake Forest Park?), updating their storm water standards.  In addition, Shoreline's other green goals?  Hire a Green Team, measure progress, and look into energy and climate change policies. For a complete run down of more of Shoreline's 2008-2009 goals: http://cosweb.ci.shoreline.wa.us/uploads/attachments/cmo/2008-09%20Proposed%20...

Paramount Park in Shoreline, WA is located at the corner of NE 155th and 8th NE.  It is a fabulous neighborhood park that boasts a great play area for the little ones, a baseball field, a lap for running, biking, etc that is about 1/2 mile or so long, great grassy space, picnic tables, and more.  It is well-kept and clean.  My daughter loves the climbing wall at the playground and her father likes the fact that there is a skateboard park for him to enjoy as well.  Shoreline, WA is located just North of Seattle.  Here are a few photos from the last time we were there...

The Shoreline City Council adopted a report put out by the Citizen Advisory Committee this last February and in doing so will start to implement some of the many goals they have for the city's housing concerns. There are many different challenges that the city now faces concerning the housing market including home affordability, variety of home choices, and the maintaining of neighborhood character. The demographics of the population are changing and the housing price and type also needs to change with the times. Take for instance the baby-boomer couple who want to downgrade to accommodate their changing needs, or the single mother who can barely afford the rental apartment she is in, or even the young professional like myself who has grown up in Shoreline and have come back to be apart...

The City of Shoreline has this great meeting once a month.  Representatives from each neighborhood (a volunteer position) get together to discuss what's happening in their neighborhoods.  At each meeting there is a presenter from a particular department of the city government that discusses some of the current projects going on in the city.At the March meeting, representatives of a Shoreline City Council citizens' advisory committee reported on their year-long study of a housing strategy for the City of Shoreline.  The committee focused on three areas for their study:  affordability, housing choice, and neighborhood character.  The result of the study is documented in the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Report.  Some of the highlights of the report:Factors relating to why the City of Sh...
