Last Saturday, June 23rd,  Artopia happened in Georgetown in Seattle!  This colorful and exciting art and fair event was sponsored by The Seattle Weekly.  Describing the event, The Seattle Weekly published this:  "Welcome to Artopia - Seattle Weekly's first annual celebration of local innovative art and emerging talent.  Artopia is a multidisciplinary event that boasts an eclectic mix of art, ranging from the renowned to the obscure to the completely undiscovered."  The event seemed to be a great success, so here's hoping that next year there will be the 2nd annual Artopia in Georgetown!Colorful swirls of people moved about the Carnival area enjoying the mix of midway fun, with Cotton Candy, the Power Tool Races, Spin Art, even a Petting Zoo (a very friendly Rottweiler corralled in bale...

In New York, Boston, and Chicago, living above a fancy hotel is old hat.  However, until recently, developers did not think Seattle was ready for that concept.  Now they do. "Seattle is at a tipping point," architect Blaine Weber said.  "As cities mature, pedestrian amenities mature.  The lifestyle becomes more engaging and inviting as you can walk to restaurants, etc.  And as more projects come in, the city becomes safer because it becomes a 24/7 lifestyle." I would like to share one of our new Condo listing with you peopleThis cosmopolitan condominium suite is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 den, nearly 735 sqft, 1 included parking space, and high-end condominium in downtown Seattle's newest luxury towers.  The Cosmopolitan Towers at the corner of ninth and Virginia is located in the heart of ...

This week some buyer clients who I have been working with to buy a Seattle area home for two and a half years (they are waiting for their perfect next home before buying) and the "perfect home" came on the market late last week.   On Sunday we took a look at it and it was everything they were looking for.  My clients made plans to meet with a lender and start the process to make an offer.  We met at my office as soon as we got the lender's approval to work on our offer strategy for the house and write up a Purchase and Sales Agreement.  While talking with my clients and asking questions, I found out that while this house was everything they had been looking for, it really didn't fit into their needs now, nor their financial goals at this time.   I asked more questions, and as we talked ...

If you go to this link, N.J. Dog Crowned World's Ugliest, you will see an article on I found on ABCNEWS.com.  The dog was crowned the winner last night and came in second place the year before.  Elwood, is a 2-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix.  He was rescued two years ago, "the breeder was going to euthanize him because she thought he was too ugly to sell," said Karen Quigley, Elwood's owner.  She said "people love him and adore him." I want to know what kind of a personality he has.  I looked the breed up on the American Kennel Club to get more information.  Does he scare other dogs?  I'm a dog lover and have two spoiled toy Manchester terriers.  That is Manny on my logo--I bought him from Saint Lazar, a breeder close to Atlanta, Georgia.  I go to their website whenever I n...

West Seattle is a peninsula. It is a part of Seattle that pokes out into Elliot Bay, which is the main waterway connecting Puget Sound to the Seattle waterfront. With Elliot Bay separating West Seattle from the "mainland," one can enjoy a great view of the Seattle skyline. West Seattle is connected to the rest of the city via the West Seattle bridge. A favorite destination for many Seattelites is Alki Beach. Yes, a real beach in the city! In addition to providing a stretch of about 2.5 miles of beach. The beach itself includes a seawall that allows one to just sit and people watch, or to stroll along at your own pace along the water. Walking the beach path gives you wonderful views of the city skykine in addition to watching a game of beach volleyball, or catch locals sunning themselve...

I met up with ARDELL and Rhonda Porter (fellow Rainers) yesterday to take a peek (and we got more than an eyeful with the Nude Painted Cyclists!) at the Fremont Solstice Parade and Fair .  None of us had been before and we had a fun time enjoying the weird and wonderful spectacle...what a hoot!  In keeping with Fremont's declaration of being "The Center of the Universe" and it's official Latin slogan:  "de Libertas Quirkas" which loosely means: "Free to be Peculiar" it The Fremont Solstice Parade is one that definitely marches to a different drummer! The Solstice Cyclists (aka Nude-Painted Cyclists) kicked off the unofficial parade beginning with creative body paint and joyful fun to celebrate the upcoming longest day of the year.                  Then the official beginning of Fremont'...

The Seattle Times had this article today by Amy Martinez "One big chunk of downtown Seattle up for sale".  It is nearly 13 acres in what is known as the "Denny Triangle" and it is something the Clise family has been accumulating for four generations.Martinez says in her article "The Clises held on to their land and considered cashing out only after the city adopted new rules last year allowing developments in the Denny Triangle to rise 40 stories or more. With a core staff of 35, Clise Properties is too small to develop the land on its own, Clise said. He hopes to complete the sale by year's end, though he reserves the right to not sell if bids come in lower than expected.  Based on recent sales of downtown land, outside real-estate professionals estimated that the portfolio could sel...

It is beautiful out right now and a perfect way to start your summer would be to attend the Fremont Fair.  It is going on today and tomorrow.  The SeattlePI.com has an article “Come one, come all to welcome summer with Fremont's goofy parade and fair” that talks about some of what you will find there--"an eclectic mix of art, music, crafts and people."   The parade starts at noon today and begins at Northwest 36th Street and Third Avenue Northwest, heads east to Northwest 35th Street and Fremont Avenue North, south on Fremont, then east on Northwest 34th Street to Gasworks Park.  (Do note that the parade it is known for naked bicyclists participating.  There is music today from 10:45 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. this evening and  from 10:45 a.m.- 6:30 tomorrow, and if you check out the first link...

According to the Northwest Multiple Listing Services June 6th, 2007 report, Condo sales dipped last month. Brokers reported 99 fewer pending sales compared with the same month a year ago for a 5.5 percent decline. In King County, where about two-thirds of the pending sales occurred, the volume nearly matched year-ago numbers. Brokers notched 20 fewer pending sales for a 1.8 percent decline from twelve months ago. Prices for condominiums continue to jump at a fast clip. For last month’s closed sales, the median selling price system-wide was $270,000, up 18.4 percent from a year ago. Preview of Fremont's Solstice Parade Festivities....I was prowling around Seattle's Fremont (The Center of the Universe ) yesterday and came upon a warehouse (the new Theo Chocolate Factory , formerly the old Red Hook Brewery) with a sign on it about the Fremont Solstice Parade .  I parked my car and checked it out.  I peered in the windows beside the doors and saw lots of stuff for the Parade, a guy just then propped open one side of the door to let some fresh, sunshiny air in.  I started chatting with Greg, as he introduced him self, and we started talking about the Parade.  Greg invited me in to see what he, Carla and Leslie were working on to get ready for the parade this coming Saturday, June 16 2007.Greg showed me the "Thirst People " costumes he was working on, Carla was working ...

I was reading Yahoo.Finance.com (one of my favorite things to do) and came across an article entitled "My So-Called Financial Life" by Penelope Trunk.  Her theme is that you should change your job if you want to, and that sometimes you have to make big sacrifices to do so.  She talks about how she and her husband moved from big money jobs in New York City to much less lucrative jobs in Madison, Wisconsin.  It is a good article. When I was divorced from my first husband I got a roommate so that I could meet expenses and have some money to save.   I have friends and relatives that would be much better off financially if they would get roommates--but this is their choice.  It was at that time that I became interested in the stock market and my 401K.  For a long time, the company I worked ...

Meridian School is located in the historic Good Shepherd Center within North Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.  It has Kindergarten through 5th grade classes.  I know about this school because I volunteer at the Wallingford Senior Center that is located in the same building.  The other day the children put on a play and the senior center had an ice cream social for them afterwards.   I had an opportunity to speak with several of the students and asked them how they liked the school--they all enthusiastically said that they did.  I have also spoken to parents and they feel the same. The Meridian Schools approach to learning is thematic. They "teach core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies together in a larger context, firing imaginations and weaving lear...

No matter how often I say it and write about it, seems people's minds get stuck at Closing Day = Signing Day, which on the West Coast is not the case. For a property closing tomorrow, the buyer signed yesterday and the seller will be signing today.  Closing involves Recording the property into the new owner's name at the County.  So in order for a property to close on time, the buyer and seller both need to sign a day or two in advance of closing. Most lenders require a 24 hour review of the signed loan documents.  So the buyer should sign at least two days before the property is scheduled to close.  The seller can sign the morning of closing, but best to get it done at least the day before.Usually the only thing that happens ON the day of closing, is the key exchange, and that happens AF...

This morning's Seattle Times has an article by Taya Flores entitled "For the love of the Senior Games"  "Formerly called the Greater Seattle Senior Games, the name changed this year with the games' expansion to the Eastside cities of Redmond, Kirkland, Mercer Island and Bellevue. Events include 11 different sports and activities, from golf to kayaking to dancing. The games began June 1 in Renton with ice hockey and will end June 17 with tennis in Seattle. This weekend includes softball in Redmond, pickleball (a cross between badminton, tennis and pingpong) on Mercer Island and a swim meet in Kirkland".The article highlights some participating seniors, their sport and their ages.  They are quite inspirational!  Like Phil Flash, 88, he is pictured running at the Mercer Island High School...
