Ridgefield is just 10 minutes north of Vancouver. The original inhabitants were the Chinook tribe, who had a large fish named after them. Lewis and Clark visited them on their way to the Pacific Coast and enjoyed them so much that they stopped for a visit on their way back. James Carty, who was an Irish immigrant, filed the first Land Donation Claim in 1840. He was the only settler until 1853.
