My Activerain friends know I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in Renton, just southeast of Seattle. One totally obscure fact (among several I take pride in) is one that most of you would probably never ever suspect from this once quaint little blue collar town in the Puget Sound. Renton is home to the very first West Coast Drive-In Restaurant, the Triple XXX Barrell. It was just 3 blocks from our home in Earlington where I grew up in the 1950s and 60s. I can recall as far back as a pre-teen with a paper route waiting for the weekly ‘two for one’ Champ Burger special with fries and a root beer.
