North Everett Historical District is located on Grand Avenue and Rucker near the Legion Golf Course and Marine view Drive. The neighborhoods is built in Traditional and Colonial style construction that incorporates large homes, big lot sizes, many windows and beautiful landscaping. The neighborhood reminds me of something out of a movie and in my opinion it is one of the nicest places in Everett Washington.Being situated on a bluff, the North Everett Historical District has breath taking views of the Puget Sound, Olympic Mountains and the Everett Marina. Many people watch the sunset from The Park on Grand and the walk way that graces Grand Avenue. It is a gorgeous area and is worth a taking a drive through on a sunny day just to see the well manicured yards and grand old homes.

Be careful what you wish for - tax breaks in the core of downtown Everett.  The Everett City Council voted to extend the downtown redevelopment toll for ten more years. As Everett is bracing for explosive residential growth, bringing thousands of residents into the downtown core, this tax break makes buying a condo a more attractive proposition. With a dozen of projects expecting to blossom, this tax break will spur residential development.  Under the program owners of new condos can skip ten years of taxes on the value of eligible residentail buildings, paying taxes only on the land value.  When the ten years are up, the full value of land and improvements will be assessed.I recently sold a condo in a downtown revitalization project and the $50 a month tax fee made the payment more affo...

Many state senators and community leaders have been working on the proposal of bringing a four year college to Everett.  With a population of over 100,000 and 670,000 in Snohomish County, and with forecasts of nearly one million, Everett needs to step up to the plate and provide higher education opportunities in the Engineering and Polytechnic field. Now, Everett's Mayor says he's willing to back a branch campus of the University of Washington in Everett.  "A UW branch will create new, affordable and convenient education options for North Puget Sound students," Mayor Stephanson said recently.  The biggest hurdle is whether a branch campus in Everett would undercut funding at the branch campus in Bothell.  Stephanson pledged community support, including land for a campus and fundraising.I...

They all need a home, and I've found them one.Ever have to find a home that fits a movie sized screen TV; I did, we had to find just the right sized family room to hold not only the tv, but the components, movie chairs and let's not forget the popcorn machine.Or maybe there's an important member of the family that we need to consider, and unfortunately, he can't communicate to us his needs; however, he needs a fenced yard to be safe.  I've looked for many a home that has a fenced yard as a requirement for "Beloved Fido" or they wouldn't buy.  Can't say I'd blame them with three doggies of my own!And the kids, grandkids, or greatgrandkids, they come to visit and of course they need a safe place to gather so we look for large, fenced yards (accommodates Fido too) or locations that have lo...

Frigid Air Affects Home Sales "A rapid shift in February to frigid air in much of the country had a cooling effect on home shopping that went beyond normal seasonal factors. Weather factors have continued since, reported David Lereah, the National Association of Realtors chief economist." You will see this is true for both the King County and Snohomish County housing markets. but, even though sales slowed, prices rose in both counties.Active listings in King County increased in February 2007 by 1,708 homes or 28 percent compared to the same time period in 2006. In comparison, sales in February decreased by 2 percent or 78 homes. The average market time in February increased by 31 percent. An increase of 15 days compared to February 2006.King County continued to experience healthy apprec...

We're talking about "Housing Hope" in Everett, Washington.  Later this month the nonprofit organization plans to open New Century Village, a 44 unit transitional housing complex for homeless families with children.Funds came from a variety of sources including city, county, state and federal governments along with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.Twenty-one spaces will be available for  homless teen mothers -- the trials and tribulations of adolescence are difficult enough, add single parenthood, poverty and homelessness and it's a recipe for desperation that most will never endure. This nonprofit group has helped homeless teen moms find permanent housing, go back to school and learn life skills since 1997.  The girls who successfully complete a two year program become eligible for ...

This is the view from my back door, we hardly get any accumulation here and last night got hit with seven inches. It is like a winter wonderland here.  Most all businesses are closed, schools are closed, again. This is about the tenth missed school day this year. However, I am enjoying the scenery.Hope it's a good day out your way.Everett's weather is special.

OK, I left an hour ago with nothing on the ground and this is what happened. The roads are getting slick, the traffic is bogging down, Seattle which is 25 miles from Everett, has a travel time of 1 hour and 15 minutes!  The problem with this weather is Pacific Northwesterners are not used to driving in this stuff, so when we get an inch or two of snow, the city stops.Oh, well, glad I'm home now and off the roads.

Well, someone said "spring is just around the corner".  Not here in the Pacific Northwest. There is a cold front moving in today that will be dropping SNOW FLAKES in the low lands, particularly, Everett as we are in the convergience zone!As I look out my office window, it's 8:55 AM and the flakes are as large as silver dollars! And with all the evergreen trees we have it, it coats them like pictured here.  We are expecting trace to 3" here today with freezing temperatures tonight; however, don't get the sled out yet, by Friday, it will warm into the 50's.So for now, get out there and enjoy, as by Friday, the Puget Sounders will be pulling out their shorts and tee shirts!I'm off to an appointment and enjoy the day.

Once a thriving lumber mill town, and now the home to the world's largest aircraft manufacturer as well as a Navy homeport, Everett is a city of hidden gems.  With a population of just under 100,000, the city is undergoing an amazing transformation from sleepy mill town, to a dynamic community with unique historic districts, revived shopping areas, and a strong community spirit.  One thing Everett is not, is a "true" suburb of Seattle.  More and more people who work in Seattle and the Eastside are choosing to live in Everett for its affordable housing and great quality of life, but it's more than a bedroom community.  It's truly a city in its own right, with good schools, a city government committed to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, and cultural and ente...

How do you feel?  Everett City Hall has vacancies since the Snohomish County government workers moved into their new building.  The first commercial tenant is a mortgage company. There are mixed emotions about this, supporters sa opening the building to business tenants is a prudent use of a public asset. The "private use" restrictions were lifted; however, city officials still had to consider establishing a fair price since the building was paid for, in part, with $10.1 million in tax exempt bonds. One city council member says "City Hall should be devoid of commercialism. It should be used for government purposes."What are your thoughts on this hot topic?

It's been a good year for the Boeing Company, which means millions of dollars will be paid out in bonuses for local Everett workers. About 45,000 employees in the Puget Sound region will receive an equivalent of 12 days worth of pay to most of the workers. The payout is tied to meeting specific financial targets. This is great news for the local economy. It means cars, televisions and other big toys will be sold, but for some this could be closing costs on a new home.

Everett has the best kept secret......Jetty Island. Jetty Island is a manmade island and salt water marsh made with sand dreged from the navigation channel of the Snohomish River. It's a popular recretation spot for young and old. It is only accessible by boat.  During the summer months the "Mosquito Fleet" runs ferry service from the Port of Everett to the island. The island is preserved in its wild habitat for young salmon and other marine creatures.  The Everett Parks Department has "hands on" classes for the children spotting all types of marine life that enjoy this small island. The best part is the salt water marsh and tide pools. You can walk for miles in ankle deep warm water an frolick searching for sand crabs, baby fish and just plain old seaweed. Pictured here is my granddaughte...

Everett is finally "growing up".  A major riverfront land deal nears closing.  The California company will bring back to life for people what was used only for industry.  The dream of an upscale place to shop, dine, work, live and play is starting to take shape. Best yet the development will meet LEED's, Silver standards, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This area located along the banks of the Snohomish River will include 2.3 miles of public trails leading to the water. It will also contain retail, office space and hotel rooms with possible expansion of condominiums.  Half of the land is sensitive wetlands and will be preserved for local birdwatchers. This is an exciting time for a small town. Read the whole story here in the Everett Herald.

The Boeing plant in Everett, WA just released details on the remake of the 747, the 747-800.  It's predecessor is 40 years old.  The new 747-8 Intercotinental is 18 fee longer than the 747-400 which allows for an additional 51 passengers in a three-class seating arrangement. The 747-8 borrows some of the technology and interior design of Boeing's latest plane, the 787 Dreamliner.  Boeing wanted to find a way to make travelers forget the hassle of traveling at ungodly hours to get to the airport, fighting traffic jams, looking for parking, lugging heavy baggage and waiting in security lines for what seems hours. Boeing feels that by pumping up the interiors, making more space possible in the lower deck, offering the "Sky Loft" situated ove the rear half of the plane created for a lounge ...
