We've recently staged several homes with lots of windows (a good thing) which creates lots of wonderful natural light in a room (another good thing).  What is not so good is the glare or reflection that is created from this natural light onto the artwork we have so thoughtfully selected and placed in a space.  That is where canvas art can be a fabulous solution.  Lightweight to transport and hang, relatively inexpensive (you can even paint your own abstract in colors to coordintate with a room) and a non-glare surface to boot.  It's the perfect art for those sunny spaces.  No more glare in the MLS photo gallery!  Also, this type of art often has a textured surface, which makes it look similar to an original work of art.   Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA, 425.776.7890, ...

The bathroom is usually the smallest room in the house, but one of the most important to potential buyers.  Make this space a relaxing retreat by creating an elegant ambiance.  Fluffy towels, artwork, potpourri in a decorative container, plants and a luxurious shower curtain can transform this relatively small area into a beautiful space.Tip:  Instead of hanging a traditional shower curtain, hang a longer fabric curtain panel mounted close to the ceiling on a shower curtain rod.  Make certain that the rod coordinates with the finishes in the bathroom.  In this example, the rod is a dark bronze to coordinate with the bathroom fixtures.  The chocolate brown velvet curtain is dramatic and makes the ceiling seem taller.   Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA, www.sistersredesig...

Staging is more than providing furniture for a vacant property.  When staging is done well, it sells a lifestyle that today's buyers are looking for.  Professional stagers know how to maximize the space to create warm and inviting spaces that say "Welcome Home!" to all who enter. Here are two Edmonds condos, both in the same building, both for sale in a large resort style condo community with sweeping views of Puget Sound.  As a potential buyer, which condo would you decide to view in person?    Condo One:Condo Two: As you might have figured out, the same condo is in both photos!  The first photo is "before" staging and the second photo is "after" staging.  When selling, don't just sell the house, sell potential buyers on the lifestyle that can be theirs when they purchase your home. St...

Staging is all about creating a welcoming atmosphere and creating buyer interest in a home.  Recent studies have shown that greater than 75% of home buyers use the Internet to search for homes prior to viewing them in person.  Staging highlights the home, not the "stuff".  This just completed Edmonds home, built by Craig Reimer of Eaglewood Construction, was recently staged by SISTERS Interior Redesign.  The craftsman style home features breathtaking views of Puget Sound from almost every room and is a wonderful home for entertaining.  If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and take a look!   The listing agents are John Bishoff and John Reich of Windermere Real Estate, Edmonds.  The home is open on weekends, and they look forward to meeting you!  901 Cedar Street, Edmonds, WA 98020    ...

Yes, this is the same room!  This lower level family room really is a great space, but you'd never know it if you looked at the MLS photo online prior to staging.  With the addition of color, lighting, greenery, artwork and properly scaled furniture, this room is now warm and inviting.    Give your listing the advantage of professional home staging.  Contact us for a complimentary staging quote.Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA, 425.776.7890, www.sistersredesign.com

The phrase "seeing is believing" is true when it comes to staging a home for sale.  Showing the function of a room to potential buyers is important, but so is creating an atmosphere of relaxation.  From the "before" picture, would you have believed that this room is a great place to entertain?  After staging, it's a great party room or a nice spot for some solitude away from the main living spaces.  This room could have been perceived as wasted space, but after staging it's viewed as a wonderful addition to this home.  AHHH!  Soak your troubles away!!!   Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA 425.776.7890, www.sistersredesign.com

When buyers are shopping for a home, they want to be able to picture themselves living comfortably.  A well staged master bedroom provides the feeling of a welcoming retreat, relaxation and comfort.  It's especially important to stage a master bedroom if it's a bit small.  Properly placed furniture and accessories will actually make the space feel larger.  Folks want to know they'll be able to put their queen sized bed in the room! SISTERS Interior Redesign recently staged this resale home in Edmonds, WA.  Here is the master bedroom before and after staging.    Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA, 425.776.7890, www.sistersredesign.comContact us for a complimentary staging quote today!

SISTERS Interior Redesign recently had the opportunity to partner with Evie Jenner, Windermere Real Estate, Edmonds, to present a downtown Edmonds condo for sale.  What made our job of staging easy was the beautiful paint colors that had been selected by a previous owner.  As you can see from the photos, the colors selected photograph very well and in person these colors create a warm, cozy, welcoming atmosphere.  This condo listing generated lots of interest from real estate agents and potential buyers.  The condo received multiple offers in the first week on the market.  So...before you decide to sell or list, be aware of how color can affect how your home feels to potential buyers and make good color choices.

I am finding that people are a little nervous about purchasing homes ( you do not need to be a geinus to figure that out).  For many investors it is a great time to buy - rates are good, lots of inventory to choose from and sellers are a lot more flexible in negotiating.  What are other people seeing?

Seattle area floods:  Seattle Suburb of Edmonds might have a remedy!  Seattle real estate has been hit with flooding and the Seattle suburb of Edmonds, Wa had quite a bit of flood damage and not a lot of flood insurance.  As a result Mayor Haakenson proclaimed a "Local Emergency" for the town.  A local emergency status means that residents might be eligible for some reimbursement from the federal government for flood damage caused by this latest storm.  If your home suffered damage as a result of the December 2nd and 3rd, 2007 storm from either rain or flood, contact info is below.                      Emergency Services Coordinating Agency (ESCA) at (425)776-3722 Courtney Cooper ....For all your Seattle Washington Real Estate Needs! Gloom and Doom Housing Reports? Not in Snohomish County, WA!by Belinda Walker, Edmonds REALTOR®Edmonds WA Real EstateNo doubt you've heard the latest "gloom and doom" housing reports of this past week. Prices down 3.2% nationally, June 2006 to June 2007.  Existing home sales down 0.2% last month (is 0.2% even significant?). Inventories at a 16 year high of 9.6 months supply. What you didn't hear was that Seattle was the #1 market nationally in prices, UP 7.9% year over year!  Or, that Portland Oregon was third.  Only 5 of the major metropolitan areas were up and we had two of them right here in the Northwest. Those existing home sales numbers this week?  Yes, nationally they were down 0.2%, but only the Midwest actually fell.  The south was flat at 0.0% change, and the northeast and wes...

The Subprime Mortgage debacle has worsened. Subprime mortgage companies are in the midst of a true crisis! More than half of the top 25 mortgage companies from 2006 have either reported serious losses, been sold off to other companies or have filed for bankruptcy! This has not only negatively impacted the availability of subprime mortgage products but has also negatively impacted other forms of financing commonly know  as "Alternative" or A- financing. These were loans for borrowers with good credit but complicated income tax returns. Their good credit was used primarily in the underwriting decision. Credit standards loosened considerably over the past few years. Many borrowers who would not have qualified under the more "traditional" mortgage products such as Conventional, FHA & VA, or...

OCD About Weeds With Yellow Flowersby Belinda Walker, Edmonds REALTOR®Edmonds WA Real EstateAs a real estate agent, you can imagine I drive around Edmonds quite a bit.  I've been noticing SO many yards filled with those little yellow flowers better known as weeds. http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/LANDS/weeds/weedid.htm I have a 20' x 20' patch of land to the left of my driveway where the dirt is so hard that the only thing that will grow there is weeds.I woke up one morning and decided my mission was to rid this patch of dirt of every single weed.  Ok, so after about 20 minutes, I realized that pulling these demons by hand was probably not the "easy" way to go about it, so I set myself on a different mission - how to kill these weeds without damaging the surrounding flower beds or the environ...

KOMO News published yesterday a startling story about the homebuyers who did everything right in purchasing their home; only to end up living in a toxic, flooded, waste-ridden moneypit that drove them into bankruptcy.     The 1940s farmhouse in Edmonds seemed quiet, picturesque, and the perfect place for the Nealeys to raise their family.  Shortly after they moved in, however, the family members began to develop bloody noses, migraines, respiratory infections, and asthma. They soon discovered the cause: only weeks after the family moved in in 2001, heavy rains flooded the small stream running through the peaceful backyard, beginning a season of flooding in the yard and crawlspace of the home.  Neighbors reported that the stream has flooded for decades.  The floods brought years of i...

Edmonds condominiums will force you to rethink any previous notions you have had of condos.  These homes vary from small and efficient to grandiose and gorgeous.  If you're considering purchasing real estate anywhere in the greater Seattle area, be sure to check out the regionally-famous Edmonds condominiums. Most Edmonds condominiums have been built in the last few years.  As the region's population increased, it became necessary to create more high-density housing.  While many cities only zoned the less desirable parts of town for multiple-family complexes, Edmonds' bold planners sectioned off some of the most beautiful neighborhoods to accommodate the growth.  As a result, Edmonds condominiums are the most sought-after in the state. Many Edmonds condominiums appeal to buyers because of...

Edmonds WA - Support Your Local BusinessesBy Belinda Walker, Edmonds Realtor®Edmonds WA Real EstateNow, I have nothing against national chain and franchise businesses.  I believe they are representative of our free enterprise system and the American dream.  Do you know how these large conglomerates were able to be successful?  True, the people who started them were mostly likely business savvy, had drive and were willing to work hard and sacrifice.  But the most significant key to their success in my opinion is that they were supported by their local community.  So in honor of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce's 100th birthday, why not take a look at our community and see where we can lend some support to our local entrepreneurial spirit?Catering - Have you checked out the remodeled digs ...

Peaceful, Beautiful, Educational Edmonds Waterfrontby Belinda Walker, Edmonds REALTOR®Edmonds WA Real EstateHave you ever spent a period of time where you were so wrapped up in home and family issues, trying to make a living, just moving ahead day to day, forgetting to take a look around the world on the outside? For the past year, that's what I've been doing.  I have a teenager at home (‘nuff said), working on my Real Estate business, making a change to ZipRealty, paying bills, making the day to day decisions on my narrow treadmill of life.  As of yesterday, it had been nearly a year since I had gone down to the Edmonds Waterfront to take a walk.  I live within 2.5 miles from the Waterfront, it's not a convenient walk unless I happen to be doing the "power walk" thing with my hypothyroi...
