The Trawler Fest was held in Anacortes, WA for the first time last month and it drew a large crowd to Fidalgo Island!  Appoximately 1300 boaters came to Anacortes and enjoyed Anacortes Marinas, restaurants and shops.  Anacortes is know to be a boating community with lots of marinas and easy access to the San Juan Islands.  If you don't have a boat you can go to the San Juan Islands via the Washington State Ferry. The Anacortes Trawler Fest was sponsored by PassageMaker Magazine.  Visiting boaters as well as Anacortes residents had a great time helping to maintain Anacortes as the boating capital of the Northwest. Anacortes Home Sales The housing market in Anacortes was soft in May primarily due to terrible weather and the snow birds that lingered in their warm weather winter homes. In Anacortes, there were 35 transactions in May 2007 with a median price of $395,000. In May of 2008 there were 34 transactions with a median price of $346,250. Housing statistics of "sold" properties report the activity of 60-90 days prior when Anacortes had extremely cold weather and snow. The tulips bloomed late this year and then were drowned in rainstorms...we have not had our usual beautiful spring!    According to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, the Mount Vernon-Anacortes, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area had the 30th best housing market in the country of the 287 metropolitan statistical areas measured.  We have slipped a bit, last year we were the 3rd best, but we are still doing better than 89% of the Nation, and that isn't bad at all!Our strong market is not limited to our local area.  The Seattle-Bellevue-Everett Market ranked 19th overall.  In the state rankings, Washington was the 5th best state overall. Photo Tour of Anacortes & Fidalgo IslandLast Friday I decided to take half a day off of work and drive Fidalgo Island on a photo tour. It was a crisp & clear winter day, so I knew that it would be ideal for photos. I decided to begin my tour in Anacortes and travel counter clockwise from Fidalgo Bay around the island. My tour began at the Anacortes Marina. There were some great photos to be had at the marina. From the photo you can see how crystal blue the waters were in the marina. There was no wind, so the cold waters were as smooth as glass. From the Anacortes Marina I headed up around Fidalgo Bay to the Cap Sante Park.
