LAST CALL: Stowe's 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont takes place tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.  It will be an exiciting and fun event for all walker, hikers, cyclists and runners.   My dog, Sadie, and I hope to see you on the trail.  As it is a steady 13% grade on the climb with a few steep pitches thrown into the mix, we are hoping to jog 25% of it and walk the rest (at a brisk pace). Sadie is already working on her beauty sleep and resting up for tomorrow's festivities! Or maybe she just wants her belly rubbed! The 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont will take place on Sunday, August 25th at 9 am. The event is open to runners, hikers and cyclists to climb Mt. Mansfield's 4.3 mile Toll Road Ski Trail with an approximate elevation gain of 2,500 feet. When I first heard about this e...

It is time to update the Stowe Meadows Food and Dining Guide for Stowe, VT.   From Casual Eats to Vermont's most sought-after Chef-owned digs, Stowe Meadows Lodge recommends our favorites.   The Stowe Area (VT) offers diners wonderful options.  Again this year we're excited to post our favorite Stowe Area, VT dining spots. No hear-say, we've made certain to visit these locations and we've updated our outlook since our Stowe, VT Dining post in 2011.  As you'll find in any resort area, dining and lodging options change, chefs and owners come and go.  Some of our favorites are still on the list while we're excited to mention a few new spots you'll love.      In addition to our personal experiences, we solicited feedback from other "locals" (aka Stowe-area residents), Stowe merchants (who o...

It FINALLY happened - I FINALLY saw My First Bear in Vermont!!!!!!!  It was around 7:30 last night. My neighbor about a half mile away texted me and said "Be Careful if you are out walking Sadie, I just saw a big black bear".  Most normal people would rush back home and go inside to be safe.  What do I do? I rush back home, ditch the dog, grab the camera and sprinted as fast as I could through the woods looking for 'my bear'. I came upon him with the biggest smile on my face.  I'd finally found My Bear.  But I was too far away for a good photo.  Stealth.  I belly crawled for about a hundred feet keeping close to the treeline hoping that he wouldn't see me and run off (or decide to eat me).  My heart was racing in my chest.  I was shaking from the adrenaline rush. I literally couldn't st...

When I first heard about this event, I was impressed that people run up this trail as it is very steep in parts. I would think - Wow, how do people do that? Now that I live next door to the trail, I walk it about three times a week with my dog, Sadie. It's all a matter of perspective. The event is hosted by the Catamount Trail Association and proceeds will benefit the Catamount Trail and Vermont Land Trust.  The Catamount Trail is a wonderful trail that spans 300 miles up the length of Vermont. I would like to hike it all some day. Approximately 8...

The mountains near Burlington, VT are part of the Green Mountains and are well known for their skiing, hiking and other winter and summer activities.  We wanted to provide some information on the four peaks in the range, some more well-known than others.  The name of the state of Vermont itself is said to come from the french les Verts Monts, meaning "The Green Mountains".  Whether you own real estate in Vermont or are looking to buy property near the ski resorts (like near Stowe, for example) or other attractions, education on this topic can be quite useful to a smart Vermont home purchaser.  The Top four peaks in the range are as follows: 1. Mt. Mansfield - 4,395 feet - The highest point in VT - known for the ski resort Stowe, the Long Trail and, of course, the mountain's face-like fe...

Depot Street Malt Shop is one of my favorite places to visit in Stowe, Vermont.  This olde fashioned ice cream parlor is decorated in a 1950's theme with black and white photos and memorabilia. My favorite ice cream is their Black Raspberry.  It is great on a cone or in an ice cream soda.  I was very happy to see that they announced today that they are adding two new flavors - Raspberry Yogurt with Chocolate Chips which sounds absolutely heavenly along with a creamy caramel crunch.  Both flavors are made by Wilcox Ice Cream in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.  What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

I can't believe it.  I was out walking my dog around the grounds of my townhouse in beautiful Stowe, Vermont and I missed two baby bears that stopped to play right on my front lawn.  I returned from walking my dog and the neighbor told me excitedly how two baby bear cubs had just wandered across the property. I had been assembling a pile of kindling wood as I have been having fires in my fireplace almost every night in June - if you can believe it is still that cold up here - when is summer EVER going to come to Vermont?  I had a small pile of large branches that I was going to bring indoors to put on my wood pile and the bears actually chewed teeth marks in the larger branch. How did I miss this?????  Another neighbor saw a moose about 2,000 feet away from my home last week. I guess I ...

Stowe, Vermont - Springtime Photos 2013 One thing I love about real estate, is I get to drive around all over the area.  Whether showing homes or listing them, I almost always have my camera on me.  And I absolutely love photography.   So, I decided to write a blog showing some of my favorite photos I took this Spring in the Stowe, Vermont area.  The colors are so fresh and vibrant - almost as great as foliage time!

Stowe Theatre Guild will be presenting the play 'The Pirates of Penzance' from Wednesday through Saturday nights, September 25 through October 12, 2013. 'The Pirates of Penzance' is one of the most revered projects of Gilbert and Sullivan.  Centered around the main character of Frederic, a boy who was orphaned at the age of 8 and is apprenticing himself to a band of pirates.  Based on pirate lore, he must apprentice himself until the age of 21.  However, due to the technicality that he was born on February 29th in a leap year, he is told he must apprentice until the age of 63.  Being an honest pirate, that is his intention and he asks for his beloved Mabel, the daughter of a modern Major General (my favorite song in the play!) to wait for him.  I have seen this play several times at var...
