My house is half hardwood floors and half carpet.  I hate the carpet!! No matter what it is so hard to keep clean with 2 little boys.  But now that I just purchased a Hoover Steam Vacuum and see what was in my carpet...I need to convert my entire home now to hardwood floors I think.   What do you prefer?  Hardwood or carpet?

I always get overwhelmed with invites to every networking and charity events in the area.  Unfortunately, with managing a business, real estate, being a single mom, and just life it is hard to be at every event.  I really have to pick and choose which ones are going to be the most beneficial for me.   I realize you don't have to be at all of them.  And as you grow your network - I have learned to build on those relationships more effectively.   So here are my top 3 for July 2010 that I am going to try and make!  Hopefully I can meet you there!

Being a retired Navy Senior Chief I try to keep abreast of service related items in the Virginia Beach area.  The latest is for Coast Guard and Navy veterans who served in Vietnam.  There is an updated list of vessels that were exposed to the herbicide Agent Orange.  The additions include all Coast Guard vessels with a hull designation of WPB (patrol boat) and also the WHEC (high endurance cutter).  For any veteran who can prove they served aboard these ships they can have their benefits expedited.  If you don't know, Agent Orange is linked to several types of cancer and other ailments.  Most of these are serious and there has been a hard fought battle to make the VA aware of the problems.

Took a day off from selling real estate in Virginia Beach and went a little west for adventure in Busch Gardens.  After a few rides we ventured off the beaten path and found some things you couldn't ride.  Pet maybe but not ride.

I sell homes in Virginia Beach with swimming pools and have safety on my mind all the time.  If you are looking at a home with me that has a pool I will provide you with not only printed information on pool safety but also provide you with some good web sites to go to.  One of the best is one the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  For those of you that already have pools it is a good place to go as a reminder or to find out how to make your pool safer.

I was showing this bank owned house in Virginia Beach and found this vine growing out of the master bath doorway.  It was not attached to anyhthing.  I am amazed the listing agent didn't take a picture of it for the MLS.  The picture is 90 degrees off for some reason.

The real estate industry has certain business practices that are considered “normal” one such business practice is the brokerage fee. Under federal and state law, it is illegal for brokers, or their agents, to discuss with other brokers and agents their brokerage fees This could be construed as price fixing. Have you ever sold a home and found yourself wondering why real estate agents charge X percent?  There are several ways professionals, like attorneys and financial advisers charge for their services.  They can charge  a flat fee, a retainer, by the hour or a contingent fee.  Generally in real estate, the norm is a contingent fee or some percentage based on the sale price of the home.  But who is this "norm" benifitting is it one sided or is it a win-win? The traditional percentage base method of selling real estate works on the assumption that the real estate agent/brokerage firm is spending money up front, to advertise the property in order to find a buyer.
