The Smithfield Christmas Parade is a can't miss event every year. Visit downtown Smithfield this Christmas season to see the historic downtown area. It's my favorite holiday event in our town and it draws big crowds every year. Main Street is filled with hundreds of people and the event always gets you in the Christmas spirit. Smithfield is a former seaport small town in Virginia and was incorporated in 1750. So proud of my son, Tyler, a sophomore Building Contruction major at Virginia Tech, who leaves tomorrow for Haiti. While his friends are leaving to go home for the upcoming holiday, Tyler will spend his Thanksgiving week building a foot bridge for villagers in the mountains of Haiti.
