Are you relocating to the Quantico Virginia area in fall of 2013?   Have you been looking at the rental prices thinking...gosh for that price maybe we should consider buying a home versus renting a home. You might be right. The average two bedroom condo or apartment in our area rents for $1400 a month! Single family homes rent for $2000 up to $3000a month. To make matters even more challenging, rental inventory and resale inventory is very, very low. So the relocating folks must be aware of that. This week we had a family of six and a relocating family of two drop in with suitcases in tow and no where to go. Hotel rooms are expensive and base housing options are slim! Please do your homework before you arrive. Or call a local REALTOR who can help you. Don't go it alone. Furnished and sho...

And I'm not the least bit worried. If you are a criminal looking for a community to rob then Prince William County VA has one for you to consider.  But only if you want to spend the rest of your life behind bars.  Tucked away on Quantico MCB is the little hamlet of Hogan’s Alley.  If you could drive down the street you would find a town that resembles any town US.  Houses, post office and yes a bank line the street.  Yet at any moment a robbery or shooting can take place. Hogan’s Alley is part of the 10 acre training facility for new FBI agents located at the FBI Academy on the grounds of Quantico MCB in Triangle VA.  Having a father who was an FBI agent for 35 years meant tales of the crime sprees in Hogan’s Alley were always good for a story at dinner. Hogan’s Alley was designed with ...

If you live in Prince William county you should check out the 17,000 acre Prince William Forest Park. One of the least visited national forests on the east coast Prince William Forest Park is located about 35 miles south of DC off of I-95. Prince William Forest Park is managed by the National Park Service. The park was created by FDR as a recreational area for disadvantaged city kids. During WWI the park was used by the Office of Strategic Services for training. Most people do not realize that the park has cabins available for rent that can sleep 6-10 people. The cabins must be reserved but the rates are CHEAP! They aren't the Ritz but if your goal is to hike through the park and not sleep on the ground then this is the way to go. Prince William Forest Park has the largest inventory of c...

Located at the Marine Corp Museum is a statue honoring the military dogs who lost their life duing the liberation of Guam in 1944.  Over the years dogs have been an essential part of hleping military both in peacetime and war efforts.  For many years the dogs were considered "excessive equipment" and either euthanzied or left behind when a war ended.Fortuantely today military dogs are recognized for the work they do and come home when their tour of duty is completed.  Working dogs often can retire with their handlers or be placed for adoption through a program at Lackland AFB, their training facilty. Thanks to all of the heros who can't speak for themselves.

The sun was setting on the Semper Fidelis Chapel when I snapped this photo catching the reflection of the trees and sky.  The chapel is located just above the National Museum of the Marine Corps outside the gates of Quantico MCB.  The chapel is open for quiet reflection everyday between 9 AM to 5 PM.  Surrounding the chapel are walking paths and additional memorials to our United States Marines.

Quantico Real Estate is ideal for those working on or near Quantico Marine Corps Base.   I always get a chuckle when I tell people where I live.  I live in Triangle Virginia which is directly beside Quantico Marine Corps Base, and is prime Quantico Real Estate.  I find that NO ONE knows where Triangle is, even people that have lived in Virginia their entire lives. Triangle is nestled up beside Quantico Marine Base between Stafford and Dumfries.  Triangle is the home of established residential single family, and townhome communities as well as several communities currently under construction.   Triangle and Quantico Real Estate is a neccesity as Quantico has 1000's of people coming through each year. As anyone who has lived in Northern Virginia or even visited can appreciate the importan...

Today is the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. If you ask any Marine they will tell you without hesitation November 10, 1775 is the date of the founding of the United States Marine Corps. My father-in-law served in WWI, WWII and the Korean War. He would be 107 if he was still alive today. He landed on the shores of Okinawa as part of the First Marine Infantry Division. Once of the bloodiest battles of the war. Though he never spoke much of his service to our country he rose through the ranks from a Private to a Lt. Col before retiring. When my husband (USAF) received orders to report to Kadena AB in Okinawa my father-in-law was visible shaken. His only memories of the island were the year he spent in battle. He would never make the trip to visit us in Okinawa and we under...

We have all read the stories of how the railroad opened up development throughout the United States and changed the face of our young nation. When transportation officials and developers began planning the Virginia Rail Express (VRE) along the I-95 corridor in 1992 there were concerns as to whether the lack of housing near the train stations would derail the long term plans for a commuter trail. Just like the Wild West the train brought a new supply of "whistle stop" towns close to the eastern run of the tracks including Belmont Bay, Rippon Landing and Quantico. The Woodbridge Station sits just at the edge of Belmont Bay and is within a mile of the marina that is the jewel of the community. Still growing Belmont Bay offers buyers the chance to live in a community that includes a marina, ...
